I was wondering are there any rules that encompass SE/E Asia sea battles?, Ancient – Imjin wars

vojvoda21 Jul 2011 9:54 a.m. PST

Not that I have seen but very interested in it as well. Oh wait I do have one, Let me go get it,
Good news:
Found it "Pirates! miniature battles on the high seas" Third edition by Flagship games.
Bad news:
It does not have the Asian variant. I know I have one but will have to dig some more later to see if I can find it.

Sorry

Cog Wars was what we used a few times, Here is something I found on TMP:

The Virtual Armchair General 13 Mar 2005 1:11 p.m. PST wrote:
"The Kris And The Flame" by Chris Ferree covers actions involving Ilunan, Dyak, Moro, and others for the mid-19th Century. Of course, the Kora-Kora's, Prahus, Junks, and other vessel designs in the region of the East Indies/South China Seas go back considerably farther with little significant changes.

Each vessel type is specifically described and provided for in the rules regarding handling characteristics, weaponry, and tactics.

The rules (a full length variant of the veteran "The Sword And The Flame" system) are available from "And That's The Way It Was…" to be found on TMP's Manufacturers List.

I still think the ancient rules in Pirates might work. Specific ship data would have to come from a different rules set or research.

Does anyone make the model ships for this period?

vojvoda21 Jul 2011 5:15 p.m. PST

Old Glory has some basic ships (junks) in 25mm and also a Turtle boat. Schulturn (sp) has several in 25mm as well.

An old Miniatures Wargames magazine once had a complete set of rules for doing Korean/Japanese naval warfare during the Samurai invasion of Korea in the 1500s. I dont recall the issue though.
