Take a look . . .
Now, It's not really in my nature to be a tease, but I am so pleased with the way these models are coming along, I just felt compelled to share, even though they are not available yet. If you're interested, you can see more (and larger) photos of these three beauties here: link These are the first kits in a new series . . . Lake Erie, 1813 . . . which will eventually include every ship present at the Battle of Lake Erie, hopefully before the bicentennial of the event in September, 2013. From the left, they are USS Niagara, USS Argus, and HMS Detroit. (Argus was obviously not on Lake Erie, but it's one of the variants that can be built from the Detroit.) Detroit is in the hands of the test-builders now, and Niagara will be soon. Regards, Jeff warartisan.com |

Great result! Just a thought: shouldn't sails be larger? Or it is a practical choice from you? |

Stunning work! I'm amazed at what people like yourself can do with paper models, I'm lucky to cut a straight line

Andrew: In spite of the apparently lopsided result of the battle, the British acquitted themselves very well. Barclay was forced to offer battle by a strategic situation that was beyond his control, in spite of being outnumbered and outgunned, and he damn near pulled it off! In any case, with the anniversary coming up you can hardly begrudge me the chance to celebrate a rare shining moment in a war that, from its conception to the treaty, was an almost unbroken tale of bungling and failure. PaperMakeiT: Good eyes. These are the first complete test builds of the Niagara and Argus, and the sails do need to be rescaled for the final kit. Detroit's are about right (although it's kind of hard to tell from the angle of the picture). |

I couldn't see a scale anywhere. 1/600? 1/300? Bigge? Edit: I see 1/300 on the blog so I assume these are the same. Very nice but too small for me. |
