With 15mm Fantasy really taking off and with the economy taking a dump, I'm going with 15s.
BS was written for 25mm but the official figures were 15mm. Go figure…

Right now about a half dozen in 25/28mm. But thinking 15mm for some new armies. No really preferred scale though.

most of our models were the old Ral Parthas, grenadiers and citadel, so I guess true 25mm's. A few years back, we knocked up two or three armies using mageknight figs repurposed and rebased.

25/28…32…whatever it has creeped up to now.

While there are some interesting 15/18 mm…it would take a whole heck of a lot to get me to switch scales, and the small savings isn't enough.

I have found that some of the new 15 mm dwarves would make pretty good 25 mm gnomes (as well as some of the more exotic creatures like Kercpa).

I'd play 28mm, but be thinking of 15mm.

I cool with either 15 or 28mm. I have multiple armies in both scales.

25mm exclusively.

Years ago when I played with students, we used 15mm.

As a friend of mine says, "Certain genres look better in certain scales." I prefer 25-28mm for fantasy. One member of my group has a large investment in 15mm fantasy, and he occasionally puts on games with his figures. It has advantages in that you can use a smaller table, or fit more figures onto a table since they're smaller scale figures. There is also 10mm fantasy stuff, but I feel the smaller scales make it much more difficult to discern the racial differences, outside of paint colors. YMMV.

Back in the early issues of The Dragon magazine, there was at least one article which discussed using historical figures, of smaller scales, to represent Elves, Gnomes, and possibly Dwarves. The idea works well for Elves, and smaller, more human proportioned, races, not so well for Gnomes and Dwarves, due to their stockier builds.

Whatever approach a person chooses, they only have to please themselves, and possibly the members of their group. Cheers!

How does one get a copy of Battlesystem now?

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Jul 2011 1:25 p.m. PST

Ebay.

Yeah, I'd be using my 25/28mm figs. My 15mm are used for something else as are my 6mm.

Thanks,

John

Second-hand. John's suggestion of Ebay is good. Sometimes it can be found via Amazon-affiliated local bookstores.

We use 25/28mm. If I were starting all over, I would give 15mm some serious thought.

Backyardpatrol21 Jul 2011 9:51 a.m. PST

I picked up several copies over the years at Half Priced books.

SonofThor21 Jul 2011 11:36 a.m. PST

@whitemanticore You can usually find one at a good used bookstore. I picked up the 2nd ed. Battlesystem and also the Battlesystem skirmish each for under $8.00. Noble Knight is another option.

Honestly I've only ever played Battlesystem with the cardboard battle units that it came with.

Dasher23 Nov 2013 11:40 p.m. PST

25mm/28mm. No desire to re-create my collection in 15mm which is why I play Bolt Action and not Flames of War, but that's just me.

25/28mm too much old school lead to anything else. I wil say that the 15mm Splintered Light Miniatures are very tempting.

FWIW, all mass battle games are best played (IMO) with what I have…

3 mm for ACW/Napoleonic miniatures (historical) but if they ever make 3 mm fantasy I am there!

Most applicable for this rule set is 6 mm for fantasy

I have 6 mm (looking to 3 mm) for SF games but they hardly qualify as mass battle. Once you get indirect artillery and air strikes/aerospace strikes… large piles of dead bodies…

I am looking to add 15 mm for 18th Century historical games since I am dumping 25+ mm figures except for skirmish games (well, keeping some 25+ mm Fantasy – too many Der Kriegspieler figures supplemented by 1970s Ral Partha to bear the pain of disposing of…) so Fantasy 15 mm wouldn't be a reach but low priority.
