Do you use one of the classic worlds like Greyhawk, Blakcmoor, Mystara, or Faerun? Or from literature like Middle-Earth, Hyboria? Or do you use your own world?

Own world(s). Mine and another fellows. Although we did do the Lonely Mountain once.

Played "Battle of Five Armies" (Lonely Mountain, with 21eRgmt), but used a different set of rules for that. Otherwise, all of my BS games are based in my RPG campaign world. Another member runs games in his world, in 15mm scale.

Greyhawk wars would be fun, but it is too much work to grapple with all of the information Gygax put into it for armies for all of the various countries. Individual battles would take a lifetime to play out the entire war, so it needs to be done at a more strategic level, for total resolution.

When playing out some of the larger battles from the Greyhawk wars, I suspect you would need to up the figure ratio from 10:1, to something like 100:1, or even higher, to make the larger battles playable: we might have a couple of thousand, 25-30mm figures, between all of the players in my gaming group, but even if we did have the number of figures needed for 10:1, I doubt we would be able to move so many in a playable amount of time.

I typically focus on smaller, manageable battles, rather than ten's of thousands of combatants. I have, however, played in some convention games which fielded 1,000+, 25-30mm figures, total. We had five, or more, players, per side, in addition to a couple of judges to keep things moving. My local group is typically in the realm of 4-6 players, total. ;-) Cheers!

In recent years, I've not identified the world.

My own world – 30+ years of erratic development…

I have done Greyhawk and Dragonlance, but mostly I do Middle Earth, or my own game world.

My own primarily and a bit of Middle Earth since I have a lot of their figures.

Faerun and Krynn.. and my homebrew world

Sort of a mix of a lot of them. The two worlds that we play in most started out as being based on Dark Sun and Forgotten Realms. Over the years though…they have morphed into things which are not nearly as recognizable as such.

My own world.

A mix of my own and other fantasy worlds, if someone else's they are often Moorcock's.

No specific world.

I use the fantasy / medieval setting of Hârn. I run a somewhat military based RPG campaign, which sometimes results in massed battle. Battlesystem (2nd edition) is a nice, somewhat simple set of rules that allows the characters to be heroic in influence the battle directly.

Hârn is a nice setting and is highly detailed. Worth checking out for hardcore FRP gamers.
