I've completed a couple of elements of Xystophoroi for a number of Hellenistic DBA armies:

They are Freikorp figures, which I think look very nice.

Very nice.

Very natural looking.

Very nice indeed. Really shows off the Friekorps figures.

Cheers

QRF should give you a commission, Mark. I just put in a debut order with them for 30-odd Seleucid cataphracts after seeing yours. Great work with these fellows too!

Cheers,
Aaron

Thanks, all. As far as getting a commission from QRF, Aaron, given that I feel I'm often hassling them with small orders and special requests I'm just happy they keep supplying me! I'm glad my blog shows what their figures can look like, as I couldn't find much when I was researching them online a while back. I reckon some of their mounted figures are superb.

He does hassle us a lot :-)

Really nice job. I have some QRF in my Hellenistics but not those. Will have to get some next time I'm adding to them.

Hi Mark & Geoff,Can you tell if they are the original Freikorps sculpts from a long ways back. Nostalgic reasons! Adam

Don't know about these casts, but I remember the naked Gauls from the early 80s when I bought some from Freikorp that was then in Northern Ireland:

Thanks Mark,
Those Gauls were sculpted by Dave Allsop before he moved to the US and was tragically killed in a motor accident. I took over his 'seat' for about a year at Freikorps and sculpted the Hellenistic range. That range included your cavalry, my very first 'sculpts'so to speak. I was somewhat surprised to see a photgraph of the elephant appear in the FOG lists. I'm convinced it is the same one (or was there two?)that I painted twenty years ago! Adam

We have been replacing and expanding the Romans, and have gone back to remould from the original Freikorp masters (where available) for the Hellenistic and Gaul ranges, so they should be the same :-)

Thanks, Adam. It's great to be able to put a name to the sculptors of a range. I knew Steve Shaw made the dark age figures, which are some of my favourites. Now I know two other names.

It'd be great if sculptors were named more often on company websites; I know Khurasan does. I like knowing some of the history of the figures I have.

Hi Mark, Up to about 1990 Dave did everything for Freikorps except vehicles and big guns. He also sculpted the figures for Platoon 20. Many of the ranges were made because of his interest in unusual subjects. South America was one of his favourite themes. His death in America was a great loss to the hobby. Adam
