In recent weeks I have seen a few images actually appear on the forums, within a post, rather than a link to a pic elsewhere.

I have searched the FAQ, and tried inserting pics (Jpegs) into text.

Guidance please.

The pictures must be hosted on the internet somewhere. You can't upload direct from your computer. Then you just copy and paste the URL here. The URL must end in a graphic format extension.

A few days ago I noticed that .jpegs did not post but .jpgs did. I don't know if Bill has fixed that yet.

Edit: Yup still no jpegs.

It has to be a linked URL, you can't upload JPeg images. So if you want to link to your own pictures you'll need to send them to an image hosting site (photobucket/Flickr/similar) and paste the link.

Which begs the question, is there a reason that the jpeg extension is not recognized or is it just a hole in the programming?

Which begs the question
No, it invites the question. To beg the question is to assert the truth of a proposition to be proved with no evidence apart from the original assertion. ( link )

I wonder what the story is with PNGs and GIFs.

The code currently recognizes .jpg .JPG .gif and .GIF

Yes, I need to add more.

Thanks for the definition Jeff.

I think that PNGs beg but GIFs invite.

Somebody told me that TIFs demand!

And JPEGs are easy.

JPGs, not so much.
