Have you ever received odd looks, questions, stares, or other "inquiries" (informal or otherwise) due to the number of boxes you receive at your residence, the type of shipments you receice, the locations they come from, and/or the descriptions on the packages?

My regular postal employee is an overweight female who is forced to walk a good set of stairs to get to my front door to make my weekly deliveries. She never questioned me about where they come from or what they are for, but I make sure she is well compensated for come the holidays!

My wife gets tons more stuff then I do. Mailwoman might not even know I exist.

My father used to work for the Post Office.
I subscribed to Strategy and Tactics magazine, and ordered a few of the other games as well.
They were shipped in plain brown envelopes, with the return address as "Simulations Publications".
The other guys at the Post Office used to ask my father about all those stroke books I was getting in the mail. They thought it was from Playboy, or worse.

A Twiningham12 Jul 2011 9:35 a.m. PST

"Stimulations Publications" eh?

John the OFM12 Jul 2011 9:41 a.m. PST

Yup. grin

I remember an editorial in S&T regarding advertising they were willing to accept. One thing they were NOT willing to accept were ads for feminine hygiene products. It makes one wonder why they felt compelled to take a stand on that product. Were they ever approached? Or was it fallout from "Stimulations Publications"?

When I first moved to my current town and started using the local PO for shipping our products, I got a lot of "Iron…Ivan…Games?"

But after getting to know each other and chatting away with them over the past few years, they know a little something about gaming now. Plus they have enjoyed watching my son grow. So yeah, strange reactions at first, but that quickly faded. Shame is, they are closing that PO soon :(

Yes.
In fact, at one time when I was getting a LOT of GW boxes, they started to ask me to just pick them up at the Post Office…

As it turns out, she just wanted to ask me out.

The weight of a goodly order of figures has prompted queries in the past.

only one time I had a truck driver call me to make sure I was home for a delivery I was and when he got there he said he had one small box for me about 15"x24"x28" Marked 400Lbs and that he could not lift it off the pallet, and his pallet jack was out of order because his morning helper dropped it off the truck.
I went into my shop(2 bay garage) and came back with my Pallet jack (long look from the driver) and we unloaded the pallet and as I was signing for the box he looks at me "OK what is it?" "Well its a anvil :)" I say……………………..
"Right!…I know I shouldn't have asked" he said walking to the cab of his truck shaking his head.

Not at all, never one comment. Even wehn I get stuff in from Europe, England and Italy usually.

But I know UPS and USPS very well as they delivery very regularly. I dont leave the house often when amazon.com can deliver and it costs me a lot less in gas to shop there.

meledward2312 Jul 2011 12:42 p.m. PST

hmmm now that I think about it

I do get stares and interorgations, but those are from the wife.

Grand Duke Natokina12 Jul 2011 1:01 p.m. PST

Not really.

Sometimes, but only from my wife…

Nope. Live way out in the country. Most boxes won't fit into the mailbox, so the deliverer (USPS, UPS, or FedEx) will drive up the driveway and honk. If I'm not home they will leave it on the porch in a plastic bag. I get so many deliveries, my dogs won't even bark at them, they are so used to seeing them in the driveway.

I've posted this before, but someone with a sense of humour at Miniature World Maker writes 'Rubber Toys' on the customs declarations of their shipments.

My g/f used to get some odd looks from the posties. Fortunately she had a sense of humour too.

Martin Rapier13 Jul 2011 3:15 a.m. PST

I usually get valuable/bulky stuff delivered to work, and the post handling staff do indeed find my selection of items very amusing, particularly when it something like a pair of hobnailed ammunition boots in a plastic bag, a boxful of thunderflashes or various Airsoft guns coming back from upgrade/repair.

Klebert L Hall13 Jul 2011 6:07 a.m. PST

I ship everything to work, and nobody ever raises their eyebrows at deliveries to a warehouse.

hey – don't you be looking at my package.

badwargamer13 Jul 2011 10:59 p.m. PST

Recieved latex roads and had to pick them up from local PO. They were rolled up in a long cardboard tube and labelled as 'rubber toys'…….

I've seen a number of my boxes containing large amounts of lead from over seas that have clearly been opened, rifled through, and hastily re-sealed by the customs folks, not surprisingly I guess.

flooglestreet14 Jul 2011 8:12 a.m. PST

I know my regular mail carrier and large parcel delivery man on sight. They are quite freindly and couldn't care less about what I am getting. I also get things like medecine from the Veterans Hospital, and comic books.

Dasher15 Jul 2011 10:10 p.m. PST

Don't care, so never noticed.
