Sometimes, you have to take it apart, so you can put it back together again.

This is the only attempt I have seen so far:

They look like they could fit right in on some desert planet.

Have you guys made similar conversions with your 15mm figures, to make them desert-worthy, by adding robes, coats, blankets, headgear, scarves, etc.?

If so, any pics or how-tos?

I plan to do the same with these figures here:

Those gang task force figs are pretty good, lots of potential for conversion.

Somewhere in my vast collection I have a bunch of these orks link I have been pondering some conversions, maybe seeing if GZG's Heads might work.

Failing that a little greenstuff dress up to add gas masks and other apparel appropriate for the wastelands.

Something like this would be cool:

Maybe I should start with these, and just add rags over their clothing:

I guess that a simple scarf can do the trick sometimes:

When I was doing mine, I was trying to do a 15mm version of the awesome 28mm lead adventure miniatures.

Joe: "gas masks are dead easy in 15mm!"

Any tips?

Thanks,

When I think post-apoc for 15mm, I first think of the Sahadeen from Rebel Minis:

These fellas have done a pretty awesome conversion themselves:

Joe…how do you do gas masks?

Here are some bad pics of some quick and dirty conversions I did on some Crimean War Russians…

I was pondering this the other day…

Should be a good start.

Great coats or robes will probably be easier to start with, don't you think?

Well I was thinking more on the dressed in leather and mohawks with rifles myself.

ACW Gamer13 Jan 2012 5:35 a.m. PST

Dan, how about cowboys in dusters? Some head and weapon swaps and add body armor?

Cacique Caribe13 Jan 2012 11:22 a.m. PST

Hmm. That could be interesting!

Thanks,

Dan

Oh, I thought the Cowboys were a given… But that might be from my owning nearly all of PeterPigs Old West line. I bought them for Firefly/Traveller gaming…

I've done similar conversions. Here is a blog post featuring some pics taken with my old camera.

I really, REALLY like the look of these new "Arid World Warriors" from 15mm.co.uk:

You can also use the Rebel Minis Sahadeen for this purpose:

The Sahadeen are great. I bought lots of them. I'm just hoping to add a few more poses, of figures like those done by 15mm.co.uk above, to make the group a bit more mixed.

This is the territory they will call their own:

I was just thinking that very same thought as I'm in the middle of doing some myself:

Excellent figures and really take the army painter dip method extremely well (lots of detail for the stuff to latch on to). These are in various stages of completion. They'll be done by the weekend..

Angel Barracks09 Jul 2012 6:33 a.m. PST

ooooh how did you do those windows?

very bright silver and a slight blue wash?

John Treadaway09 Jul 2012 8:21 a.m. PST

My final window colours are Mithril silver forst and then Tamiya translucent blue acrylic after I've matt varnished so it stays glossy. Same as here (some finished items):

Fantastic stuff, guys. Stunning in fact.

Thanks,

Edit: Even in a semi-terraformed Mars, Valles Marineris, with its incredibly deep crevices, might hold the promise of water and relief from wind storms, and might be a better refuge for my Sahadeen:

Peter Pig has just released Tuareg heads that would be perfect for converting figures into post-apocalyptic or desert planet dwellers:
