Probably a bit behind teh times, but these look really useful figures;

I currently use the Zvezda GNW for a "sort of" 1740-50 look, but these will fit straight in as a more "germanic" army. The swappable heads may make these very useful.

Yes, once HaT gets around to putting out actual boxes of figures, you'll be able to do better than "sort of", at least so far as the Prussian infantry goes. Agreed, the customizable headgear is a nice touch: instant musketeers, fusiliers or grenadiers at your preference.

And a full sprue of just "march attack" guys, what a concept, eh ?

If HaT actually boxes them like that, won't need to buy many boxes per battalion. Although I suspect they'll be mixed in with the "action" poses.

Good luck with your project,
Steve

@ Marc at home: pics? blog?

Steve,

HäT's plan is to offer three different boxes; all marching rankers, all "action" rankers, and command. That way you can combine as many boxes as required to build battalions. They have taken this approach on a few new sets and it seems to be meeting with approval.

*Seriously*, Marc, your 'Red' pseudo-Russians and 'White' pseudo-Swedes deserve a blog of their own to be shared with the community!

Abdul666 – just don't ask him how far he's got with the project …
Wow was it really early 2009 when we started – doesn't time fly …
When [and if] my kids stop bleeding me dry I hope to get a camera and take some photo's of them [but don't hold you're breath for that to happen]

Ask away ,and ignore the doom sayers – curse my parents for bringing such a sibling into existence just to nag me :-)

The project has reached:

4 infantry units a side – 53 figures each per Grant rules
2 cavalry units a side – only half regiments of 15 at present
2 guns per side, with the lovely Zvezda limbers

I got distracted by work, kids, and now quick paint ACW. The Imagi's are waiting for some generals to be painted, but I reckon I wil then do two light infantry battalions using the Russian dismounted dragoons (only 27 figs in each unit so should be quicker – hah!!!)

Of course, a more valid question now may be how far has Bro got with his break away Imagi's? Huh, huh? Ah, the tumbleweed blows past……..

But there is no chance of a Blog – I struggle to keep my head above (work) water as it is. Not like that lazy brother of mine :-)

Great to read you use 'The War Game' as inspiration and reference!
So, we are to count on your bother when it comes to a future (and unbiased, of course) blog?
Cheers to both.

How could one do Imagi's and not be inspired by the great Mr Grant :-)

It was the availability of the Zvezda figures that made this realistic for me. I wanted to do something that my kids could (if they so desired) buy and paint some units without robbing the piggy bank – and plastics are the answer (for me). I needed infantry, cavalry and artilley and, so far, this range must rank as probably the most complete of any period availabel in plastic.

What is disappointing bnow is that the middle Grant seems to have forgotten his plastic roots and in his wargaming in history books completely forgets that there are ranges other than 28mm and 15mm in metal available, and this in his "introduction to wargaming" bit of the book – oh the shame :-( I love the Mindens (and have some) but for a beginner I reckon over £55.00 GBP a unit is a lot of dosh – mine are about £8.00 GBP

But rows of chaps in white (Lorraine) do look impressive.

Zvezda GNW are excellent and I'm painting up 100s for my Imagination wars. I could do with some decent grenadiers in bearskins; Revel's Austrians look poor compared to Zvezda.

Have to admit I prefer Charge! to The Wargame, tho' I have amended them a bit for home use.

Minden's are beautiful figures but a big expensive for me too. A bit fragile as well, I can scoop up the Zvezdas by the handful and drop them in the box. Charge! can get very bloody very quickly.

What about the Zvezda Prussian grenadiers in mitres? I bought 8 boxes of those (8 seems to make lovely Grant sized units by pose the way Zvezda make their sprues). Some are a bit fiddly but the officers are great (for Imagi's – purists struggle with mitres no doubt).

And plastics are definitely "scoop-able"

Prince Lupus09 Jul 2011 6:44 a.m. PST

I love the Zvezda grenadiers but I would like (being fussy) one army's grenadiers in mitres and one in bearskins. Perhaps Hat's impending Austrians will do the job.

Marc the plastics fan11 Jul 2011 9:04 a.m. PST

Me, I am just keen for something more dynamic than the rather sedentary grenadiers provided by Zvezda :-)

And those Prussians are next on HaT's release schedule – excellent news.

thehawk05 Feb 2013 2:49 p.m. PST

THe 54mm Prussians were very disappointing – lack of detail, weird knock-knee marching pose, too soft plastic. The hard plastic of the 25mm El Cid figures would be better.
