I would give choices but I'm not sure of all the possibilities.

Why is this a Poll? Sheesh… Are we trying to see who the Cool Kids are?

Mine is a ping pong table. Do I get a cookie if mine is the most popular chopice?

Plynkes30 Jun 2011 1:09 p.m. PST

Glass.

No, really. It's a table. I don't have any boards, cloth on a table is good enough for me. I don't mind that all my battlefields look like Celtic Manor or Augusta. I'm too lazy for purpose-built boards for every damn battle (though I don't deny that such things look damn good when done properly). More boards, lovely, indeed.

My table top is made out of counter top laminate. Works great and holds up well.

Just a brown table, or at times a table covered with a mat. Depends on where I am.

Dasher30 Jun 2011 3:39 p.m. PST

Formica, basically, but I use Geo-Hex game mats aabout 90% of the time.
Though lately I am thinking I might switch over to "The Terrain Guy" interlocking tiles.

Skulls.

And those skulls have more skulls carved in them.

Depends on the table. I have a ping pong table, and two folding 30 inches wide by 60 inches long. Over which I put down felt and foam hills. OR I could use my GHQ terrain maker or the 8 2x2 squares of plywood holding foam insulation that can be a central hill or central valley.

Allen5730 Jun 2011 5:24 p.m. PST

A couple 30"X60" foldable tables with a cloth or game mat. Terrain materials vary but I use a lot of the Heroquest hexes nowdays.

Skipper30 Jun 2011 6:25 p.m. PST

WWG paper terrain streets and sewers, or Hexon II terrain, or GHQ hexes, or whatever cloth is laying around.

My table is made up of six 10 foot 2x12 and one 10 foot 2x6 on custom built 34" high sawhorses covered with indoor outdoor green carpet. I use various terrain cloths depending on the genre of the game over the carpet for, naval, space, air or land games.

The table has had two owners, in four different houses over a period of 20+ years. The supports have gone through several different combinations until settling on the custom built sawhorses.

I have a very elaborate 6 piece modular board made of blue insulation foam on mdf, covered in sand. It rarely gets used. Most of the time, I'm using 1 of several colors of 4/6 indoor/outdoor carpet. Easy on paintjobs and easy to set terrain on it.

"Why is this a Poll?"

Yeah – s/b under 'Terrain & Scenics'

Aside: John -is your P-P table made of two separate pieces or does it have an annoying hinge in the middle?

PS- if I could get my daughter to bake one (cookie), I would send it – you wouldn't want anything I would make…

Ron W DuBray01 Jul 2011 1:48 p.m. PST

Aside: John -is your P-P table made of two separate pieces or does it have an annoying hinge in the middle?

Two separate pieces. Annoyingly hinged underneath, and the pieces never come out even.
I cover it with some automitive carpeting. I need two pieces because of the width.

Don't go rushing out to buy "automotive carpeting". You have to be in the Industry to grab scrap pieces. grin

bruntonboy02 Jul 2011 4:11 a.m. PST

Usually covered in pizza boxes and beer cans- sometimes the even have something in them

Sundance02 Jul 2011 7:27 a.m. PST

Sand. Or marine vinyl. Or something else. Depends.

14Bore03 Jul 2011 6:59 a.m. PST

If I could re-form this poll suggestion it might go something like this then maybe it would have Johns approval
1A-plain table
1B- floor
2A- painted plywood or like material
3A- light covering such as soft material such as felt, cloth, teddy bear fur(makes great high grass I saw)
3B- thicker material such as carpet
3C-Hard covering such as laminate, sand,
4A-Homemade modular (tiles that can be re-arranged)
4B- Commercial modular
5A-Foam base
And more if I see them
