Hundvig Fezian is not a real big fan of pre-painted minis, and he positively despises randomly-packed "collectable" ones - so why is he writing this article?

Looking for modern rules to game modern potential or actual conflicts.

How many figs per side? 10-20 or 200?

Desired scale?

Why make this a poll suggestion vice asking for recommendations on the moderns board?

DontFearDareaper Fezian28 Jun 2011 8:26 a.m. PST

For skirmish level modern and ultra-modern gaming, my wargaming club likes Force on Force.

Indeed, FoF FtW.

Many will say CWC (Cold War Commander) is your friend:

FFT3 looks good. (platoon stands)

COD-TOB, with modern expansion available from the test of battle website (in the forum section) (also platoon stands)

Force on Force for skirmish level.

Either FoF or Ambush Alley depending on your scenario.

For tactical, modified CR3

stenicplus28 Jun 2011 2:25 p.m. PST

How modern? AK47 (original) for lightweight entertainment and pre 90s African wars or Cold War Commander for anything else.

FoF and Ambush Alley are now one rule set that I would recomend.

I like using Iron Ivan's "Seek Out, Close With, And Destroy." It's a modification of Disposable Heroes. We use 25mm figs, usually 20-50 per side, and maybe a handful of vehicles.

Check Battle Group at the Yahoo group, for btn level. For Brigade level then CWC is good.

Avoid FOW, Rapid Fire, Challemger 2000.

Personally I like "Arc of Fire" very much for tactical games up to company level games. For larger scale battles, I use Cold War Commander if it's contemporary conflicts.

Cold War Commander. You cannot go wrong with set of these in a large pocket.

I'd say Force on Force for skirmish, Cold War Commander for larger actions.

At the risk of echo…ditto to Royal Marine & Elohim

Force on Force seems pretty hard to beat currently.

Gennorm08 Jul 2011 9:02 a.m. PST

Battlegroup for battalion-level actions.
