Wow, the Martian Chronicles brings back memories. I also remember the NBC mini-series which I quite enjoyed.

Does any one know of any real world religions that had deities that were not human or a derivative of known animals?

Egyptians:
I'm not sure if that underworld croc-hippo creature (Ammit – Devourer of the Dead) was meant to be drawn as a chimera or existing beasts or if the different sections of the creature could only be described using the closest things among known animals.

Hinduism?
I seem to remember seeing photos of temple carvings (Cambodia) of creatures that could not be matched to known local fauna.

Or you can try that whole "Ancient Aliens" route, where evidence of ETs seems to be everywhere somehow.

Guys, I've seen many photos of the Nabatean tombs in Petra (Jordan), but I had never seen this particular one here:

It's called the Obelisk Tomb.

I also kinda like that the Greco-Roman elements have been softened a bit by wind and sand. It makes the structure look even more ancient than it is.

Thread necromancy!

And well worth it! Amazing thread and amazing work!

Lol. Well, my chance discovery of that Petra Obelisk Tomb photo was a natural add-on to this topic.

Sure beats re-posting all those photos and links on a brand new thread.
