Well the hobby can't be getting that gray if there are so few of us, unless of course the number of Korean War vets is huge but shy about posting.

Grey – only in the beard!

Lee Brilleaux Fezian26 Jun 2011 4:46 p.m. PST

Ho Chi Minh gave me sixpence and sent me home.

jlstuht26 Jun 2011 5:58 p.m. PST

Signal Corp – 67-71 Was in-country on TDY assignments, but never permanent party.

Katzbalger26 Jun 2011 6:32 p.m. PST

Too young, but served with folks that were there when I was in the Marines in the '80s.

One of my bosses at work (back in the late '90's) flow UH-1 in Vietnam and just retired a few years ago (he received an extension to allow him to finish a tour in Iraq with his National Guard unit flying UH-60). Quiet guy and VERY steady.

Part of landing support at Chu Lai May 1965. From there served with MAG-36 until 1967 and with various TDY assignments all over SE Asia until transfer to other governmental agency and return CONUS for training. Will

Quiet guy and VERY steady.

That would actually make him atypical of most helicopter pilots I've known over the years. At least with regard to the "quiet" part.

Please include an entry for 'Too young to serve/not born yet.'

Oddly, though I'm about 15 years too young (born in '62), people ask me which unit I served with all the time. It's very strange. Of course, I have a completely white head of hair and a white beard at 48 (genetics).

GypsyComet27 Jun 2011 6:13 p.m. PST

Too young, though I know several.
One uncle was in both Korea and Vietnam.
My neighbor was in Vietnam.
One of the local Scout Masters was in during Vietnam, but didn't do that particular tour. He had his marching orders when Nixon called off the war, though…
Two guys I've worked with are Vietnam vets.

Only one gamer among them.

Im sorry to hear that your genetics have grey hair, I hope they still work well in every other respect.

Ranger32229 Jun 2011 10:45 a.m. PST

Not born yet, but Thank You to all who served…

Greyalexis29 Jun 2011 10:22 p.m. PST

Did not serve in Vietnam, but when I did join the Marines, I served under a lot of marines that had benn. Of course I also served under one of the last active duty Marines from WW2

brass101 Jul 2011 4:12 p.m. PST

Between tours in Vietnam I served a couple of years at Ft. Campbell KY, where I had a platoon sergeant who had gone up the cliffs at Pointe de Hoc with 2nd Rangers. Thinking back on it, I think a lot of us knew there were still quite a few Korea veterans in the army but it came as kind of a shock to realize that in 1969 someone who had gone into the service in 1943 still had four years to go before he finished his 30.

Grand Duke Natokina03 Jul 2011 8:30 a.m. PST

Brass 1, my Colonel in the Philippines in 70-71 was a WWII B-24 Pilot.

oldbob03 Jul 2011 9:24 a.m. PST

Big Jim and brass1; we had a Marine E8 who enlisted in 43 at the ripe old age of 16, He was 36 when I reported to him for Armory duty in 63. He did his 30 years, when he was in full uniform their were bells and whistles and all kind of ribbons and stuff on his chest, unbelievable!

Grand Duke Natokina05 Jul 2011 11:50 a.m. PST

Old Bob, When I got into the Guard, my entire section was myself and my sgt. Bernie had served in WWII--in the German Army. We usually spoke that in the section. And drove the 577 in German.

oldbob06 Jul 2011 6:35 a.m. PST

Wow!

CorpCommander07 Aug 2011 10:45 a.m. PST

My dad was drafted in November of 1965. I was born in late July of 1966. Hmm, coincidence?

SaintGermaine26 Sep 2011 11:25 a.m. PST

During Nam but not in Nam.. served on the USS FDR and a tin can William M Wood DD 715.

My brothers both served during Nam
One in the army toward the end of the war but he was in
recycling stuff and didn't go to nam but did go to Korea.
My other brother was in the Air Force and spent some time
in Nam.

Greyalexis27 Sep 2011 8:18 a.m. PST

I was born in 67 but the old breed that taught me in the Marines were mostly Vietnam vets

vojvoda28 Sep 2011 3:29 a.m. PST

Too young, never thought I would post that here on TMP! I joined in 76. My first girlfiend in the Army was from Vietnam, and I did go there on an MTT as security for MIA remains search somewhere in the 90s.
