After Wargames Factory dramatic (some would say embarrassing) personnel shake up, have you lost all faith in them?

Forgot some "suggestion" answers…

1) Yes
2) No
3) Wargames Factory who ?
4) Never had any/much "faith" to begin with.
5) No, but nearing my last hopes with next couple releases.

For me, I'm pretty much done with them though I may visit the site now and then to see whats coming out. Cant say anything thats come out since my last visit has impressed me.

Mako1121 Jun 2011 10:43 p.m. PST

4 for me, given all the negative press, but perhaps if they can get some positive PR the likes of GZG, or others earn, for 6+ months, or more, I might reconsider…..assuming of course they produce anything I'm interested in, at that point.

Justin Penwith21 Jun 2011 10:43 p.m. PST

I have purchased six boxes of their WSS infantry, with plans to purchase at least three more boxes of same.

I will also be purchasing nine to twelve boxes of their WSS cavalry, when released.

Of my local gaming group who are building WSS armies, mine is the smallest purchase of Wargames Factory product.

In answer to your question:

I don't give a damn about anyone's internal issues as long as the product I want it sold to me at the price I want to pay for it.

Here is another "suggested" answer for you,

6) Whatever, I just like Bleeped texting in other people's bathwater.

If every company that was to suffer from adversity be treated like WF has been on this site, our wonderful hobby would be a far bleaker one.

Makes me want to buy products from EVERY company that is badmouthed here.

pogoame21 Jun 2011 11:00 p.m. PST

7) had faith, lost it, slowly but cautiously getting it back

they made mistakes, certainly the old managment (and some by the new) but they seem to get things under control again

have from the start been thrilled by their WSS project and hoping their cavalry box will be as good as the infantry (one of the best boxes of 28mm plastic around from design/layout point of vue)

2 battalions painted, a third undercoated, 18 more waiting to get clipped

Oh look, Wargames Factory have a new product out……quick, time to dig up all the old stories so we can show how intelligent and superior we are.
Sadly the rest of the world sees it as puerile and callow.

6sided22 Jun 2011 2:51 a.m. PST

Good luck to them. They have had internal issues, as most companies do. At least they are doing something different for us gamers at a reasonale price.

Just finished painting first unit of Persian cavalry and while there were some issues about mix of arms(human)and the number of redundant horses' heads they have turned out a treat. Until Immortal get their Late Persian Cavalry out I will be buying more Persians from WF. Can't wait for the WSS horse to appear.

8) Not a manufacturer of interest to me

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP22 Jun 2011 3:13 a.m. PST

i HAVE BEEN A STEADY BUYER OF WF SETS & THE "SHAKE UP" DIDN'T REALLY BOTHER ME. hOWEVER HAVING SAID THAT THE LAST 2 SETS i BOUGHT… PERSIAN INFANTRY & SKELETONS WERE A DISAPPOINTMENT. THE PERSIANS LACKED ENOUGH WEAPONS & THE SKELETONS WERE A NIGHTMARE TO ASSEMBLE WITH MANY MISCAST PIECES.. IE: SEVERAL LOWER HALVES MISSINF A PART OF A LEG. THE AMAZON SET DIDN'T INCLUDE THE NON-HELMETED HEADS, WHICH WAS CORRECTED QUICKLY BY THE COMPANY. ALL IN ALL IT SEEMS THEIR "QUALITY CONTROL" IS FAILING.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer22 Jun 2011 3:29 a.m. PST

buy selling crap? I've not seen anything good from them having checked out the figures in the flesh. I guess I'm 4 on the poll, but I think really my answer would be if they ever manage to produce something with enough quality to make me consider buying it regardless of how cheap it is, I'd re-consider them'. Shame they couldn't take some of the ideas they had and get Mantic to do them or someone who can make decent plastics.

Mark S22 Jun 2011 3:39 a.m. PST

Only issue I have is the quality, the figures are not up to the standard of the competition, I would rather pay more for better quality designs. So for me improve the design and I will buy, until then WSS are Front Rank, the only period they have done so far that interest me. Politics in wargamming give me a break!

bandit86 Supporting Member of TMP22 Jun 2011 4:09 a.m. PST

I sent in a couple of Ideas and never heard back from them, so I will go with #1

Griefbringer22 Jun 2011 4:14 a.m. PST

9) What does faith have to do with miniature purchases?

I base my model purchases on actual pictures of final, released products. I do not shop figures based on faith, hopes, greens, renders or manufacturer's reputation.

Neither do I count too much on manufacturers estimates about possible future releases – those are just too prone to changes to be worth depending on.

tberry740322 Jun 2011 4:16 a.m. PST

I thought you were announcing that WF was producing a line of plastic Dr. Who minis. grin

In answer to your question: 8

Tim

pogoame22 Jun 2011 4:29 a.m. PST

@Mark S

Front Rank can be better, but more expensive
a battalion deal of 24 cost me 34 euro (p&p included) while WF cost me 9.60 euro (p&p and customs included)

that gives me 3.5 battalions of WF versus 1 of Front Rank
we want to play big scale (dozens of batt on each side), so decision easily reached

i buy Generals and Artillery from Front Rank, but rank and file from WF

Sysiphus22 Jun 2011 4:57 a.m. PST

So, do the Persian horses have head options with reins and bridle? Or was the suggestion on the WF site to use thick string the only option?

Thanks.

Justin, check here as they still have 2 boxes of infantry.

John the OFM22 Jun 2011 6:18 a.m. PST

I like the original crew, but they never made anything I was interested in.
Besides, I always sucked at assembling figures with arms holding things like rifles or muslets.
I wished them well, but I never bought anything from them.
The New Management makes me even less likely.

Sundance22 Jun 2011 7:17 a.m. PST

I shouldn't say this – is it still a dawghausable offense? – but I agree with the previous post.

(Said with great trepidation)

Pijlie22 Jun 2011 7:29 a.m. PST

Is agreeing with the OFM a DH-able offense? I agree with him! I do I do!

Valator22 Jun 2011 8:38 a.m. PST

When I hold a piece of plastic in my hand from that company that wasn't originally created on a CAD program by Tim Barry, I'll change my mind. Until then…

Waco Joe22 Jun 2011 9:12 a.m. PST

Pogame's #7 comes closest to my position. While I am not enamored with the public face of the company, the product I am interested in, WSS, suits my needs at the right price. Their customer service has gotten much better. I could care less whether a mini was originally designed on a computer or sprang whole out of the head of a Perry, it is the end product I judge based on my definitions of value.

Personal logo Bobgnar Supporting Member of TMP22 Jun 2011 10:31 a.m. PST

I just bought 4 boxes of WSS figures, along with others in my group for a total of 10. Fast service, all was good.

Good plastic figures, just add the appropriate head to 3 of 4 figures. I do not like building figures. Still more torsos than legs. Wish they would sell some parts boxes. Looking forward to cavalry.

leidang22 Jun 2011 12:12 p.m. PST

NOne of their stuff appeals to me. It is all either the wrong scale or wrong subject matter.

TodCreasey22 Jun 2011 1:15 p.m. PST

As John said they haven't done anything I am interested in yet which was always painful for me as I like Howard a lot and would have liked to patronize his company.

Were this the Perries, Victrix or Warlord I might have had an opinion.

Now if they start producing plastic French Napoleonic artillery we have something to talk about.

Ron W DuBray22 Jun 2011 4:56 p.m. PST

they are on my don't buy list

1ngram23 Jun 2011 2:09 a.m. PST

"So, do the Persian horses have head options with reins and bridle? "
Yes there are enough horses heads with bridles to go on all the 12 horses supplied. There are another umpteen extra unbridle horses heads as well – God only knows who they are for.

I really don't understand the whining about quality here. Yes, metal figures are better with sharper detail etc. than plastics,(and that goes not just for WF figures) but they are a helluva lot more expensive. If you are looking for cheaper fillers or an extra army that won't cost an arm or a leg, plastics are the way to go.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine23 Jun 2011 3:42 a.m. PST

Thats the point though all the other plastic producers are putting out much higher quaility stuff for a similair cost.

My 28mm celt army was a mix of Warlord and wargames factory the Warlord stuff was light years ahead of the WF stuff. Same with the Gripping beast Vikings and the WF vikings.

WF have put out some interesting stuff but the quaility isn't up to that of the other plastic producers IMO.

ordinarybass23 Jun 2011 4:33 a.m. PST

None of the choices fit my position, so I'll say:
#8, Maybe.
I wasn't impressed with how it all went down, but at this point I've little interest in the internal workings of the company.

If their second release for the shocktroopers (officers and heavy weapons) is well done, I'll probably buy a platoon worth (1 box heavy weapons and 2 boxes regular troopers). Nothing else they make particularly interests me though.

pogoame23 Jun 2011 4:46 a.m. PST

@Prince Rupert of the Rhine

from what i have seen their older stuff (celts, romans etc) was under par compared to other company's

i bought a box of their Saxon Unarmoreds, not so good as the GrippingBeast Thegns i have

but i also have their WSS infantry, and they can stand next to my Warlords/Conquest/GrippingBeast plastics for quality

have no Perry, Victrix or Immortal (yet) to compare

Alex

You could be right about the WSS I haven't bought any. I bought some of their earlier sets (Romans, Celts, Roman cavalry, zombies, Celt chariots and Vikings)and none of them were on par with the likes of the Perry's, Gripping beast and Warlord.

Basically this put me off WF, I knew I could get better plastics else where. If the quaility has gone up thats good to know but I think they'd have to work very hard to tempt me back as a customer.

The King of Rock and Roll23 Jun 2011 6:49 a.m. PST

Had modest faith, became disillusioned with the relatively poor quality of some kits [Romans, WSS, Amazons], more disillusioned with the management Bleeped textup, now, have no reason to buy from them until they produce something I want

Connard Sage23 Jun 2011 6:54 a.m. PST

I'm not a fan of plastics, whoever makes the things.

But

now, have no reason to buy from them until they produce something I want

I apply that sentiment to every figures manufacturer.

There's some solid grasping at straws going on here.

Grand Duke Natokina23 Jun 2011 12:08 p.m. PST

Wargames Factory is doing minis of The Who?
Jimi Hendrix is better for a firefite. Crank up the volume to max. Green tracers inbound; red tracers outbound.

Dr Mathias Fezian23 Jun 2011 2:41 p.m. PST

I just ordered a box of the orcs as well as the shock troops (which I like quite a bit) and some of their new bases. I have been wanting round bases with a thickness between a fender washer and a GW slottabase for quite a while.

I've been considering getting some Amazons just to see what I can do with them, I think it's kind of fun to paint terrible miniatures- not having seen them I don't have a sense of how bad they really are.

colinvan26 Jun 2011 8:47 a.m. PST

I didn't take an interest in them until after their troubles but am rather impressed by the Orcs and Saxons I have purchased. The Saxons can come off a bit gawky if you don't file the neck a bit but no real complaints as to quality. Good luck to them I say.

The Angry Piper05 Jul 2011 9:16 a.m. PST

I bought the zombies when they came out. While they're a good source for cheap zombies, my issue was that the relief was so tiny it pretty much got covered by a coat of primer, making detail work difficult. I have plenty of zombies, but if I needed more I'd probably pick up another pack from WF (I'd just be more careful when I painted them.)

I like the look of the Greatcoats and the Orcs, but don't have a use for either set.

I don't really care about the management shake-up.
