…all while playing "Lily Marleen" on the foghorn.

Is this the James May full size version, put together by a group of twelve year olds?

Nice model but not exactly $4,500's worth.

Or, for about twice the price, you could get this – a much better deal:

My bid is in..

Dunno. Guy claims he put in 500 hours building it. Assuming he gets $5,000 USD for it, that comes in at…$10 an hour. So yes, I think it very well may be worth $5000, not that I could afford (or want…I'm a model builder myself, and part of the fun is putting in the effort), but I think from a standpoint of labor input it's going for cheap…

I'm with Garand. I don't want it but good for him to trying to recoup his time investment a bit.

500 hours: that's over 3 months, 7 days a week, 5 hours a day doing nothing but working on that model.

I have this bridge to sell. I put 10,000 hours into it too, give or take…

The water in the display is amazing!

My guess is he did it over a few years…

Pick up an issue of Finescale Modeler when they're showcasing a master modeler. Putting 500 hours into a project is not atypical for a top modeler with dedication to their project.

Case in point, in the May 2011 issue of Finescale modeler, a modeler called Scott Murphy invested 300 hours into his build of a 1/32 scale F-105D Thunderchief. So no, I don' find the claim of spending 500 hours on a project unbelievable…

This is a guy who today sells Milicast kits second hand for around the same as I can buy them new from Milicast – with a non-negotiable £10.00 GBP postage per kit! (This is from Spain. Milicast would charge HIM £8.50 GBP airmail and also combine postage.)
