Be punishable by banning? Prompted by: TMP link 1. Heck yeah! b. Beat the perp like a pinata! 111. No, it is a legitimate practice. And I have a new business to start and it is part of my advertising plan. Delta: Lock him in the Dawg House with a pair of Smokey's old socks. |

I have no desire to see him banned. Those of us that have the option to have PMs have the option to turn them off. I have had this this unsolicited message. I have made my mind up about if to do business with the sender as a result. This is a site about wargames. As far as I am concerned he just rolled a fumble.. |

Spamming the TMP Poll Suggestions board should also be punishable by banning. |

I'll bet a warning would be sufficient

He needs a slapped wrist. But that's all. |

I was just going to ask the same thing. I get enough spam on my other email accounts. Death is too good for him. |
Connard Sage | 07 Jun 2011 4:35 a.m. PST |
Bloody hell. Overreact, much? I just hit <delete>. It didn't cost anything, and I didn't feel any pain. |
Buckeye AKA Darryl | 07 Jun 2011 5:15 a.m. PST |
Slap him with a fish. My PMs are for just that, PRIVATE MESSAGES, NOT spam. And sorry, while this might have been related to gaming, it is SPAM. I didn't ask him to randomly send me a PM about some site in the UK which I will never use. Had he sent me a PM asking about one of my blogs or items I have posted for sale, then good deal. So, slap him with a fish. |

Fish is good |

His spam most likely did more damage to his service and image than banning him from TMP. To avoid future situations like this by anyone, it would appear that ample warning be given. |
Sane Max | 07 Jun 2011 6:21 a.m. PST |
He should be forced to eat a tin of spam for every person he spammed. Pat mmmmmmm I like Spam and Cucumber Sandwiches actually. Mmmmmmm Spam. |
SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER | 07 Jun 2011 6:26 a.m. PST |
Spam PM? what have I missed? |
SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER | 07 Jun 2011 6:26 a.m. PST |
I haven't finished yesterday's messages, but no PM. |

It's such hard work. You have to do it one at a time, and must have taken forever. |

Ok – down grade the mackeral to a smallish sardine |

I feel that giving the recipients of his missive an extra week of premier TMP membership would be sufficient. The problem is, he could've gotten POSITIVE publicity for a lot less effort – by working up a press release for Bill to publish on the front page. It would've reached everyone, not just the paying members. Wyatt |

Yep banning. However using the PM function for spam should be in the FAQ resulting in banning. One person is no big deal. However if it were 20 folks would it still be 'no big deal'? I think not. Thanks, John |

What if spamming were punishable by spamming
punishment fits the crime. |

Like Connard, I just hit the delete key and carried on. Calmly. |

DH for 1 month for first offense; ban him for a second. Personally, I'll never visit the site that was the subject of the spam, and I've turned the spammer into a gray box. |

B and 1 both!!!!! I concur with highlandcatfrog

1 email/PM, even if it is sent to everyone, is a courtesy
read or delete as you see fit. Multiple emails/PM from the same sender (using one or multiple accounts) to the same receiver is spam
.only that should be an offense. I'll take this, perhaps once in a lifetime, opportunity to agree with Connard Sage. |
Sundance | 07 Jun 2011 12:43 p.m. PST |
A good long turn in the DH should teach him. Since he's obviously criminally minded to begin with, though, I would just expect him to set up another account with which to attach the good people of TMP. |
ordinarybass | 07 Jun 2011 1:08 p.m. PST |
I wouldn't ban him, but a Warning or doghousing is definitely in order as is a note about this in the FAQ. As I said in the other thread, if you're going to spam TMP members you should at least pay an ad fee to do so. ;-) |
