My last post about the amount of dice I own got me thinking today about the cash investment just in dice alone for our hobby.

So, what's the most you ever paid for a set and/or single die? I just purchased a dwarven set from q-workshop & paid just under $20 USD w/shipping, which now makes them the most pricey dice I've ever bought. How about you?

I don't really pay much for dice. Maybe $.75 USD each or something like that.

My black dice they cost 50p each but that was 1978 and 50p was a good bit of money. 3 cunningly balanced to throw high 3 cunningly balanced to throw low. The only game use they have had is for character generation when I was games master. Each player character was allowed one characteristic generated with the high dice.

I once paid 30 euros for an iron set of 5 complete with cup. And once 25 euros for a set of 2 made of amber. Those must have been the most expensive, but they were for the collection ;o)

I once paid something like the princely sum of £2.50 GBP or something like that for a Zochihedron from GW in 1988. that's about the most expensive individual die I've ever purchased.

I was playing a game and my opponent kept rolling very high d20 rolls; every other roll seemed to be an 18 and nothing was less than 14. After an hour or so I got so peeved I purchased his d20, on the spot, for £10, opened the window and threw it out as far, far away as I could. I lost the game but his die rolls from then on were 'average' – a small, if costly, victory.

Bought two of the rather large (2-3 inch) Chessex d6, about 14.00cad each. Bought the first more for the novelty, and then had to buy the second to make up the pair.

My wife and I are talking about buying custom dice out of semi-precious stones. So far, they are looking pricey… grin

I picked up the "D-total" this is supposed to be d2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,20,24,30,40,50,60,70,80 and 100 all in one. If I recall correctly it was more than $10 USD and less than $20. USD

It was a real clever looking piece of kit… but since I foolishly didn't demand to handle it before purchasing it, I didn't find out until too late that it was hollow inside. It feels like I'm dropping a ping pong ball, and that's just not what I want when I roll the bones.

Outside of that, I think I've spent $9 USD on a set of polyhedrals (4,6,8,10, %10, 12,20)

Inari705 Jun 2011 9:57 a.m. PST

Around $20 USD for a single die, made from steel and rather large and heavy.

For my wife a cryastal set of dice $100.00 USD

Mako1105 Jun 2011 11:16 a.m. PST

Probably about $7.00 USD for a brick of 36 x D6's, or so.

$1.00 USD – $1.50 USD for others.

Kevin Cook05 Jun 2011 11:18 a.m. PST

$180 USD for link

I bought a pair of d6s from Q-Workshop that were not only fairly easy to read (I find most of their stuff too busy) and really fit the look for the game I intended to use them with, Rezolution. The dice are black with a glow-in-the dark pattern on them that resembles the cascading numbers seen in The Matrix movies. Perfect for the cyberpunk setting of Rez. I was told one of the reasons why the high cost was the type of paint used that not only glows but is very chip resistant.

It was an impulse buy at Gen Con and I paid $16 USD for a pair of them. I've used them for at least 4 years now and although they haven't improved my game, I do get a wow from other players watching and yes I've yet to see any of the paint chip off.

$40 USD for a full set of 7 dice made of solid brass.
They really 'clunk' when dropped on the table.

About $12 USD for a pair of d6 casino dice.

Lord Hypnogogue06 Jun 2011 7:00 p.m. PST

$10.00 USD for a pair of Planet Hollywood dice in Nashville, TN.

LordNth01 Jan 2012 11:48 a.m. PST

Dwarven Stone Dice by Crystal Caste. I got my wife a set that was $75. USD Still haven't bought any of their 'once a year' & 'rare material' $200 USD+ dice sets.

Q-Workshop is worth every penny of the $15 USD tag.
