Interesting discussion starting here: TMP link Let's try this wording and you kind folks can fill out the rest – enough for a Top 5. QUESTION: What period or genre are you unlikely to participate in due to lack of interest? Someone else is buying, setting up and running it; it demands no commitment from you except the play time. Seeds: Modern Naval Ancients Naval Napoleonic Naval Historical Aviation Apocalypse Zombies Pulp Victorian SciFi Fantasy Battle/Skirmish Warhammer Warhammer 40k Napoleonics Ancients WW2 WW1 I'll play any old thing. I'll play with my boobies. I'll play with your boobies. I don't game. What else ? |

New Kingdom Egyptians. Not really that interested in them for some reason. I have no idea why. WWII Germans never really appealed to me. I'll play pirates but never really understood the big fascination with them. Not that I would play the other two but those are probably the two things that I am least likely to paint for myself. |

"What period or genre are you unlikely to participate in due to lack of interest?" "New Kingdom Egyptians" "WWII Germans" Perhaps there should have been an I don't understand the question option. |

Won't play; Modern Naval Ancients Naval Napoleonic Naval Apocalypse Zombies Pulp Victorian SciFi Fantasy Battle/Skirmish Warhammer Warhammer 40k Prefer not to play points based games. |

I prefer skirmishing games. I don't play most naval games, Ancients Aviation |

As to the question: Modern Naval Ancients Naval Napoleonic Naval Naval is out. They are good bus drivers, but I certainly do not want to play them. That includes spaceship games too. Historical Aviation Maybe. Have not done so for years. Apocalypse Zombies Gag Me! ahhhh! Not my thing at all. Do not do the movies of such either. Pulp Home away from home! Is there a better type of game? Victorian SciFi I erased everything I had to say to be less offensive. Simplest answer – No. Fantasy Battle/Skirmish Warhammer Warhammer 40k I did my phase here when I was younger. Never really much like playing with magic/psychic as a factor. I must admit we play the occasional game of Warhammer Quest or Talisman 3rd ed. still. Never was my cup of tea really. Napoleonics Ancients I read plenty on these periods, but have never considered playing them. Again, not my thing. WW2 Started here with Airfix figures and such in the early '70s. Maybe in future gaming. WW1 Thoroughly depressing period. The epitomy of the generals fighting the last war in an environment that only the youth pay the price. Never will play! Flashman, what about a Sci-Fi generic choice? Howabout the BattleTech Universe since you included WFB & W40K? There are other big name games in the same vein as WFB & W40K that you can include which would qualify as a different Period. |

Wont do Vietnam, cost the family too much. I did one Iraq game, but now that I have had a son deployed and may again, I dont think I could. That is probably why I do Near Future battles instead, no family members being shot or shot at. |

I'll play just about anything if that is what my friend wants to set up and all I have to do is move some minis and drink beer. Because they're my friend and they play my games often enough so fair turns and all. Playing with boobies, while quite a lot of fun is an entirely different game. |

Add whatever you wouldn't play. My seed list is just that – some options to get the list started – you guys make it bloom! |

I don't have a lot of interest in current conflicts gaming wise, but that wouldn't prevent me from gaming them. I've actually changed my stance on this – I used to not game current conflicts. |

Surprised but glad you did not mention the 18th C., from the WSS / GNW to the SYW! As for the question: - nothing set after, roughly, the SYW (though 19th C. Ruritania may have some appeal, if the uniforms are flamboyant enough). Then, daring explorers from earlier periods meeting *a few* Starship Trooper bugs instead of the traditional dinosaurs in a 'Lost World'
Similarly, zombies or Cthulhu cultists in, say, the 18th C. could be refreshing; the same for the occasional war balloon or Da Vinciesque 'birdman' - nothing Naval except Pirates in 28mm - nothing with 'markers' littering / spoiling the table-top - nothing with 'pips' or dicing or initiative & the like: I stay with 'The War Game', WRG A&M 6th Ed. and WRG 1685-1835 where such limitations were merrily unknown. |

I have done D&D, might do it again on occasion, but am not much for fantasy/scifi or naval games. Don't game much farther back than the ACW. |

Have to admit that James, Jason and I are pretty much in the same boat- would play just about anything if someone set it up – that being said, I would draw the line at playing Zombies (although I would be willing to be a Zombie hunter) |

From the initial list, I have no interest whatsoever in playing: Apocalypse Zombies Pulp Victorian SciFi Fantasy Battle/Skirmish Warhammer Warhammer 40k To those I'll add: Tournaments Current conflicts (the ones happening now) "Weird" anything Anything in the future Impossible what-ifs (Aztecs vs. Samurai for example) Horror Points-based games To each their own however. |
