Yes, I know it's American owned and that the majority of members are from the Land of the Free. It seems that many American posters don't realise that there are some other little countries out there. 1: Yes b) No iii. You mean the USofA doesn't exist in splendid isolation? Gosh 100 Don't order a black and tan in Cork city |

Here on TMP, we are not American, French, Italian, or whatever it is that you are coming from whatever little country that you came from, we are brothers in gaming, miniatures enthusiasts, hobbyists, geeks. Of one mind, or wit, with a common bond (super-glue I suspect). C'mere Connard. Ready everybody

Yes But so is the American company I work for I wonder how many times I will be asked this year on what I'm doing on the 4th July by colleagues LOL (I'm British) But then again TMP is American and is hosted, run and majority of users are American so its ok with me Al |

Some Americans have heard that there are other countries, and have visited them. Some Americans have heard that there are other countries, but have never visited them. Some Americans believe that the existence of other countries is just a theory, like evolution or gravity. |
Plynkes | 04 Jun 2011 7:31 a.m. PST |
The thing that really made me laugh here once was when a poster asked how people celebrate the 4th of July in other countries. |
Doc Ord | 04 Jun 2011 7:37 a.m. PST |
Although born in the US,I regard the British Isles as the center-excuse me-the centre of war gaming and bow in that direction at least 5 times a day. I have been to Ireland,Scotland,Wales and England and already knew not to order Black and Tans in Cork. |

1. Referencing the Cincinnati chilli (chili) thread, our American cousins may not realise (realize) that to us a Skyline is a Japanese car and that a 3 way, let alone a 4 way or 5 way, is something that you wouldn't want your female loved ones to indulge in. |

If it was "too" USA-centric, what are the drawbacks precisely? |
nevals | 04 Jun 2011 7:57 a.m. PST |
I only want it to be wargaming-with-miniatures centric, that's all. |

The Gray Ghost | 04 Jun 2011 8:00 a.m. PST |
Isn't Frothers to UKcentric or LAF to Eurocentric? there are probably Australian, Canadian and French centered sites. I always assumed TMP was a American answer to Frothers. To each his own. |
Florida Tory | 04 Jun 2011 8:01 a.m. PST |
If it was "too" USA-centric, what are the drawbacks precisely? We are, after all, the center of the universe. Rick |

But I consider myself a citizen of the Universe

"If it was "too" USA-centric, what are the drawbacks precisely?" It would be morbidly obese, drink beer that tasted like iced urine, and be unaware of the silky skills of Lionel Messi. It would, however, be politer than Frothers. But that's just Anoraks Acting Out. |

Andrew May1 | 04 Jun 2011 8:27 a.m. PST |
It can certainly feel veryUS centric at times but that really is not a problemo for me. I've asked questions related to British and Indian subjects in the past and never had a prob with the answers. In fact having more US focused answers to question I've asked inthe past has been very enlightening, and I mean that in a positive way. Apart from one thing: Chilli in a can. That is a difference too far! You guys are just freaks! And yes, I'm off to the local to drink some warm beer. |

Aww but if it wasn't what would you arrogant, smarmy, condescending Brits have to pick on. I actually think LAF is the least "regional" of the wargaming sites I frequent, despite being Euro based. I would put WD3 more as Eurocentric than LAF.I still like it but they give me the "Aw look what the poor, uneducated, American said" kind of feeling sometimes. |
CPT Jake | 04 Jun 2011 8:38 a.m. PST |
"Chilli in a can" Hormel Tobasco flavored ( link ) no beans, with a few dashes of Texas Pete hot sauce, is a great way to top a grilled hot dog. Add a line of spicy mustard and some shredded chedar and you are eating well. Jake |

arrogant, smarmy, condescending Brits have to pick on. Bless. Despite being the most powerful nation the world has ever known you're sill nursing an inferiority complex. We'd pick on the French. They offer far more opportunities for jingoistic posturing. Or the Germans
two world wars and one World Cup, etc. |

Arrogance and condescension are a key part of you Brits' charm. Just kidding
Seriously, though, I have a strong affinity for The Mother Country. I'd love to visit the UK at least once before I die. |
Cincinnatus | 04 Jun 2011 8:56 a.m. PST |
It's probably focused on the stuff most of the members can identify with. Most of the time that has some wargaming aspect to it but not always. Is it that difficult to understand that people will talk about stuff they are most familiar with? I'd guess that applies to all people regardless of where they live. But for some reason while I can ignore topics that are not related to my interests or focused on my part of the country, it seems some people can't. I think it's often just used as a weak excuse to make fun of "US". |

The only thing this site is is 'more boobies' centric Seems some days the boards lean one way then the other in racial tendencies. Does it bother me – nope Does the speeling bother me – nope but then I'm dyslexic Should it change – nope |

"Don't order a black & tan in Cork city" I've been to Irish themed bars in Dallas, San Francisco, & New Orleans that didn't stock Bushmills--"Is Jameson's good enough for you?"

a] No idea. b] I've been to other countries (Japan, the Philippines, Egypt, and a very brief stopover in London which hardly counts). c] I always end up stirring my black and tan together anyway, I'd rather have a nice porter instead. Whatever, I'm off for three days to celebrate D-Day (and my wedding anniversary). Fight amongst yourselves. |

For all wrongs and slights, real and perceived, I'd like to offer up South Carolina to any taker as a token of the United States' sincere regret for offending anyone in the world. South Carolina has shown a couple of times in the past that they do not want to be a part of the United States, so please, someone take it off our hands. |

Does Bill take days off for either Festivus or Kwanze? TMP is only as big as my gaming table, and usually littered with the next unfinished project. |

Nah, I like the Yanks. They won me over with the idea of steak for breakfast. (every man has his price!) So what if every so often, a US member wants to talk to US members about US-related stuff? No worse than us posting about having faggots for tea on Guy Fawkes Night. Frankly, since they're the majority on TMP, I think they cut us a lot of slack. I don't think you'd find many multinational fora where the British appetite for a good old wind-up is so amicably indulged. |
Agent 13 | 04 Jun 2011 10:39 a.m. PST |
Someone feeling a bit inferior today? Don't worry. That's a normal post-WWII feeling for Europeans to have. Come on over. There's plenty of room for all of you in West Virgina. We don't need WV anyway. ;-) |

It wasn't all that long ago some poor TMPer was wanting to know why some US->England emails were not being answered in a timely manner and got totally shellacked for not knowing the entire country shut down for two weeks over Easter and some "random" wedding. I otherwise agree with ming31 and irishserb: TMPism > nationalism. At least when I am here. |

Or the Germans
two world wars and one World Cup, etc. Please fitterpete, do not attribute English behavior to the rest of Britain. Do not worry; they are like that to the Scots and the Welsh. Since the Act of Union, despite it being over three hundred years ago, one would think the Scots, who have saved the English bacon on more than one occasion, would be treated better; not that Her Majesty Anne did any real favors to the Scots with that little piece of politics. And we will not go into the Welsh Not (Knot for some) for any of the Americans present either. When I visit family back in Scotland and Wales, after a few days, I lose a great deal, if not most, of my American accent. Going into London and other English places, I am treated just as badly when I sound like my kinsmen as when I first arrive sounding like an American. The English are just
and so they treat anyone who is not English less nicely than they could desire. I do not know but it might have something to do with the fact that they are only just staying in the First World; a couple of good whacks, and they might sink on the world's stage to the level of a country like Spain when it comes to world effect. Just a bit (just a wee understatement, mind you) of resentment towards America displacing everyone else, including the UK, down a good ways on the totem pole to use an apt Americanism. That is just my personal theory; actually, a good number of my kinsmen's theories as well. Any way, I do not feel that TMP is too focused on the States. The folks here from around the world seem to navigate the site just fine while they are here. Am I missing Americans applying the attitudes and manners I run into in England so often? |
