Which of Belisarius' battles do you find the most interesting?

Perris070730 May 2011 8:13 p.m. PST

Dara. It's the battle that got me interested in the Eastern Romans back in the day. It was in a book on general military history that had three battles featured in full color layouts. Dara, Waterloo, and Gettysburg I believe. I still am a Byzantophile to this day because of that book.

Who (of a certain age) *wasn't* influenced by David Chandler's coffee-table book?

Daras, yep. Still have the Hinchliffe figures, too.

Allen

For me it it the battle he fought against the courtiers who intrigued against him back in Constantinople while he was busy hammering the Empire's enemies. With friends like these …..

The battle of the Third Milestone (?) against the Vandals. Interesting scenario with lots of troops marching 'on table'

A second for the battle of Ad Decium (ten mile post); nice cavalry action vs. the Vandals.

One of my favourite books is "I Belisarius" by Robert Graves. I would love to see a mini series like I Claudius using that book.

Daras for the reasons above. Like Allen I still have the Hinchiliffes, painted in Testor's enamels. picture I wonder where that book got off to?

I second Mapleleaf's call for a miniseries. I am fascinated that we see so very little of them in the West, outside of scholarly tomes, of course.

OOOO!! Miniseries on Belisarius? I am in.

Lots of cool battles, but Daras is probably my favorite.

They were all pretty darned interesting – a great concept for a campaign.
