Alright we have all got the point that support to the gamer isn't going to happen anytime soon.

What has been missed is the support to the rest of the industry. Clash of Empires have a listing in their book of the manufacturers of figures and stuff and ackonwledge the miniatures used. They also sell through other outlets so sharing the harvest.

That's known as supporting the industry. We can all be selfish but taking the caring, sharing route leads to all winning

It's way too early in the morning to be preached at.

TKindred Supporting Member of TMP21 May 2011 9:09 a.m. PST

Yes, I'm still trying to get my stuff packed for this "Rapture" thing later today. If something goes amiss and we're still here later on, we can take this up then. grin

John the OFM21 May 2011 9:28 a.m. PST

Why is "Support" needed? Define "Support".

I have been playing 1776 since it came out, and I don't recall any support from the authors. No scenario books, no website, no dedicated figures, no 2.0, etc.

Just play the damn game and stop worrying about whether the publisher is nodding in approval at you.
You like 1.0? Play 1.0. You like 1.5? Play 1.5. You like 2.0? Play 2.0. Why do you need someone to hold your hand and approve?

MajorB21 May 2011 9:44 a.m. PST

Oh dear. I'm dangerously close to agreeing with the OFM!

John the OFM21 May 2011 10:03 a.m. PST

Sit down and rest…

I'm now bored of your constant postings about WAB, FW and lack of support

If you don't want to play WAB 2.0 then don't, move on to something else and let us people who are still playing WAB enjoy it.

Just stop moaning abut the lack of support.

I think support can be defined as this:

Paul Hurst21 May 2011 10:11 a.m. PST

"Oh dear. I'm dangerously close to agreeing with the OFM!"

The solution to that is easy :-

"It appears that the OFM agrees with me, but he posted the like-minded comments before I could."

Simples!

Thank you JJ,

I found that ever so slightly arousing!!!

Give it a rest.

MajorB21 May 2011 11:27 a.m. PST

Thanks, Paul, I'll have to remember that in future!

I think we need more wargame preachers to minister to us and tell us how to play our games. You just can't have too much righteous indignation, especially when transformed into controlling impulses.

I am, however, considerably relieved to know that Jeff did not model for that himself.

Amicalement,

Allen

Arms and Armies of the Folsom Street Fair, vol 1

TKindred Supporting Member of TMP21 May 2011 2:13 p.m. PST

Yes, that's it. It's printed on the end sheet. Check the bottom of the page. Be careful when you crack it open, though.

Griefbringer21 May 2011 2:23 p.m. PST

I think we need more wargame preachers to minister to us and tell us how to play our games.

But can you actually get two such preachers to agree on the "one and only true way to enjoy historical plays with toy soldiers"?

handgrenadealien21 May 2011 2:43 p.m. PST

I shudder to think what that equipment is for; cock fighting armour perhaps?

JJartist21 May 2011 2:53 p.m. PST

A more serious answer…. I support WAB… as one can readily see by my postings, to the degree that I do- or not. I have no more energy for complaining about why others don't support their products. I can only do what I can do. One thing I know for sure, is that constant complaining about one ruleset is a false way to promote a new ruleset. Zero sum gain arguments should be left to politicians. One wise American once said: "When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Cincinnati because it's always twenty years behind the times"

So I reckon that WAB still has a long shelf life in the Queen city of the west….

Grelber21 May 2011 4:50 p.m. PST

A truly bizarre day!
Not only did I agree with Connard Sage's response as it stood all alone early this morning, but as the issue became a bit clearer, I agreed with John the OFM. If I pop back in in a few hours, I'll probably find myself agreeing with aecurtis, too. Well, about the rules anyway; I will remain determinedly ignorant of the identity of the model and how aecurtis knows this.

Hold it JJ something wrong in your last post "wise American" is there such a thing? LOL

I for one love WAB and will play it when I can if no other books come out that will be a shame a loss for both GW and us gamers.

Wise American, very much so.

Wise Scot, not in this life time.

I want to know who stoled my picture??? Mike Adams

darthfozzywig21 May 2011 7:48 p.m. PST

I foolishly assumed this thread was about flanking or rear support units in the actual game. Silly me.

But to be "on topic"…

I'm really mad Rick Priestley never came by to massage my feet during a game of WAB. Where's the support?!?

aecurtis Fezian21 May 2011 8:48 p.m. PST

Who's Ritz Friarley? Is he the guy who abandoned WAB? Twice?

Amicalement,

Allen

Jimmy da Purple22 May 2011 4:27 a.m. PST

It is such a golden age of wargaming. It almost seems that anything you want is availabe. Especially with GW, we have come to expect that all the background work will be done for us. Someone will give you all the background, army info, and a painting guide. It is wonderful, but have we become lazy. Of course if you play tournaments, you can not make up your own list (so those people may have some need of support if they want an army that is not officially out), but if you are playing with friends it does not matter.
