Although I had purchased other TFL rulesets, it was Sharp Practice that made me a Lardite. |
Whatisitgood4atwork | 16 May 2011 6:48 p.m. PST |
I have only played two: Sharp Practise and LSF. Of the two, LSF is my pick. Both are good. I just decided I don't really like skirmish gaming. LSF is an excellent set for Corp-sized battles. |

I have and like Sharp Practice. Dean |

iabsm is my ruleset of choice for wwii, and it made me fall in love with all lardie stuff. I haven´t played any of their other ruleset, but i own several of them. I would like to play a upper level game by our lardie friends, akin to comand decision. What i dont like about some of their games, like troops weapons and tactics, is their initiative cards in their deck card. i dont understand them, find them counterintuitive, but i must say that i havent tried they |

Don't play any – probably won't. No opinion either way. |

ghostdog, you might take a look at "If the Lord Spares Us" which is Brigade level Great War in the middle east. |

IABSM! which got me started with the Lards years ago and my present gaming with Troops, Weapons and Tactics; can never get enough of WW2 gaming! -Steve |

IABSM: turned me into a WW2 gamer Charlie Don't Surf: made me a Vietnam gamer They Couldn't Hit An Elephant: confirmed me as an ACW gamer! |

Chain of Command, the play-test adaptation of M&B for WW2 has given the most fun games I've ever had. |
ArmybitUK | 17 May 2011 1:55 a.m. PST |
Ive played, IABSM, BTH2, Sharp Practise, Charlie Don't Surf and really enjoy each and everyone one of them. I would try more games if I had the people to play against. On a big negative, Ive spent far more money on troops, planes, rebasing, laminator and pouches just to quench my first :) |
Berlichtingen | 17 May 2011 2:03 a.m. PST |
I own every one of their games. The ones I play the most would be IABSM (best WW2 rules I've ever played), CDS (the only decent Vietnam rules) an TCHAE (the single best set of wargame rules written to date). Yeah, I'm a fan |
Jedispice | 17 May 2011 2:11 a.m. PST |
IABSM, CDS and M&B (including the WW2 variant). I own Bag the Hun but never got around to play it, though it reads excellent and I suspect it will play equally well. |
vforvictory | 17 May 2011 2:13 a.m. PST |
I got started on IABSM. Superb rules. Then, If The Lord Spares Us, Bag the Hun, Triumph of the Will, T.W.A.T, They Couldn't Hit an Elephant, Mud and Blood and Sharp Practice. My favourites would be IABSM and Sharp Practice. Two of the most enjoyable yet atmospheric rule sets for their periods. Must give Charlie don't surf a go. |
bruntonboy | 17 May 2011 2:27 a.m. PST |
Triumph of the will for me. |
Fat Wally | 17 May 2011 2:32 a.m. PST |
Our group plays almost exclusively Lard rules. They all have their merits but I guess it would boil down to a choice of three. IABSM really opened my eyes and made me realise that I was not alone in what I wanted from a game, namely historical plausibility and fun. I became a confirmed fan of all things Lard. Personally I think TCHAE is a brilliant game with heaps of subtleties. The system and mechanisms are incredibly flexible and we've written an AWI version which works really well. Bag The Hun is probably the most fun I've ever had in a set of rules. |

I've played IABSM,TW&T,Algernon Pulls it Off, Triumph of the Will, Sharp Practice. Would like to try Mud & Blood and Charlie Don't Surf though. Enjoyed them all. A lot. Never thought platoon level WW2 games made any sense until TW&T. IABSM and Sharp Practice are my favourites though. |
Dynaman8789 | 17 May 2011 3:52 a.m. PST |
I like them for the land based rules, I'm a more nuts and bolts type naval and air player though. CDS – Love it, would never have thought Vietnam gaming could be a top subject for me but now it is thanks to these rules – so for that reason this counts as my favorite. IABSM – I love how it handles infantry ability degrading under combat. All with minimum muss and fuss. TCHAE – When I get my ACW stuff done this will be my ACW rule set. SP – Looking forward to playing this. I bought the scenario book too, but I don't have enough time and money to set it up yet. |

I think I'd vote Charlie Don't Surf, but I Ain't Been Shot Mum and Mud And Blood are both also right up there. |
Sidney Roundwood | 17 May 2011 5:11 a.m. PST |
As a favourite ruleset – "Through the Mud and the Blood" – a wonderful set of rules: playable, well researched, respectful and huge fun to play. But more impressive than any of the rules from TooFatLardies is the way in which a really fine community of great gamers has grown up around the rules and the TFL Yahoo group. |
NoLongerAMember | 17 May 2011 5:24 a.m. PST |
I would say CDS is the best set, but I love Sharp Practise. |

Through the Mud and Blood although Sharpe Practise comes a close second. Any news on a release date for Chain of Command? I really like TW&T but Mud and Blood flows much better. |

Started with Through the Mud and Blood, and just moved on to other rules sets. Richard is a first rate designer and leader in our industry. |

Sharp Practice and Mud & Blood are my two favourites. Both are well thought out and great fun. Craig |

It has to be IABSM closely followed by Le Feu Sacre', Sharpe practice and Algy. Lfs makes for a superb corps sized game that has a number of subtle nuances and actually looks like a Napoleonic battle. SP for a great game that is both realistic and so adaptable for other periods of that genre. And last of all Algy, because it is just so much fun to play. I am really looking forward to IABSM III. With the changes that have taken place so far in CDS, IABSM III is going to be a real winner! "Don't play any- probably won't". You just don't know what your missing mate! Give it a go, you won't be disappointed. |
myrm11 | 17 May 2011 6:46 a.m. PST |
Bag the Hun is my favourite. I had played IABSM before that but to me it was another WW2 ruleset, not bad, not astounding just solidly competent. I then played (and shortly after owned) Kiss Me Hardy and that was what caught me into playing TFL stuff, though I think Bag the Hun is better written and better organised so its that set that gets my vote. |
bobblanchett | 17 May 2011 7:20 a.m. PST |
Bag the Hun.. also have KMH but only had two plays of it so far |
Some other name | 17 May 2011 7:22 a.m. PST |
I've yet to find one that I wouldn't play. I have KMH, CDS, IABSM, TW&T, M&B, LFS, TCHAE and BTH. I'd rather play a TFL game for the periods they cover than any other rules. |

"Mud & Blood" and "Troops, Weapons and Tactics", excellent simulations of WWI and WWII respectively. Will try CDS soon (hopefully) |

I've played Terrible Sharp Sword and read many of the others, but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I think Through the Mud and Blood and They couldn't hit an Elephant look very promising. |
badger22 | 17 May 2011 9:13 a.m. PST |
Charlie dont surf is my current favorite. Currently play testing In the Buff, the lard entry into ECW. Great game so far, but far from finished. Very promising though. ASnd I cant wait ubntil IABSM III comes out, being updated to CDS standards. Owen |
Windward | 17 May 2011 9:56 a.m. PST |
IABSM, but I have M&B, CDS, and SP. From play I have play lots of IABSM, but a bit of SP. Yeah IABSM III should be great! |
Scorpio | 17 May 2011 10:03 a.m. PST |
Haven't even heard of anyone playing them except here on TMP. |
