I recently purchased some soft plastic AWI 54s. I like the figs and they should paint up well. They do have some droopy and floppy musket barrels and/or bayonets due to the soft plastic. No biggie but do any of you more experienced soft plastic toy soldier collector-painters have a way to strengthen these parts beside "buy metal figures"? Am having a blast painting this collection. |

With bent rifle or musket barrels or swords, I usually dip the affected area of the mini into a bowl full of boiling water and gently pull it out to straighten it. I've never had problems with this method, but there are others here who know way more about this stuff than me. |

Hot water method works well for me too. |

Hot water as suggested. I've also seen it mentioned to plunge the weapon into cold water once you straighten it. My experience with the hot water technique is that while it helps, the weapons tend to droop again over time, although not to the previous extent. Perhaps I wasn't doing it quite right. If all else fails, you can insert a pin or wire into the weapon, or glue it underneath (you can just say it's a ramrod. Steve |
