Kingsleypark's Wargaming Menagerie

Are you a gamer that likes to win at all costs?

Would you use a mis-interpretation of the rules in your favour?

If your opponent hasn't picked up on the fact that you have bent the rules do you keep on playing?

Would the realisation that you had been cheating make you stop and own up or would you carry on for the win?

Or do you play fair and square and on realising the mistake point it out and replay again?

Here is a tale of a little Goblin who though he had hit the big time only to face the possibility of having his world turn upside down

And while you ponder the question there are some pics of last night's games at Angus Wargames Club for you to look at as well

Win at all costs – no its nice but hte games more fun

Mis-interpretation – not knowingly

Bent rules – If I know I own up

Stop – Yes and replay if possible

I would say I'd own up, but then again I've not had much experience of the position you are in, i.e: winning…

1.) No.
2.) Not knowingly.
3.) 'Fess up.
4.) Stop and replay, or come to an agreeable penalty/resolution.

It's Warhammer and the minis aren't all painted; there are more wrongs here than you think!

Bloodbowl is not Golf, particularly when the team is Orcs or Goblins. grin

The context here is everything. Can the other player not count?
In American football, only the last play is done over when a penalty is called, not the whole series.
In Bloodbowl, each figure moves discretely.
Following the Football example, on which Bloodbowl is (loosely) based, only the last play is challengeable.

I remember a Bowl game with Penn State, MANY years ago, in the Orange Bowl.
Note this precedent:

When the referees finally figured out how to count, we won!
Note that Kansas had had 12 men on the field for 4 consecutive plays. The old 5-3-4 defense is a sure winner.
Note that they did not make us replay the entie game. We just got a do-over for ONE PLAY

Note that I am not advocating cheating. I am only saying that in most sports, you only penalize the previous act. You cannot do the whole thing over.

Besides, Orcs and Goblins are expected to cheat. A Bretonnian team would have to rush out on Crusade or throw themselves nude agains a dragon armed only with a rock.

Drop a flag on your opponent for allowing you to play with too many figures. Blaming the victim is a well established device to avoid responsibility.

If it was any game except Blood Bowl, I'd acknowledge an honest mistake and see what the opponent wanted to do to make amends.

Blood Bowl, on the hand, is maybe the one game where I'd keep schtum and hope to get away with it. It's almost in the spirit of the game to do so, and I've spectated games where I've seen lots worse going on, by both sides when they thought they other wasn't looking. I'm not advocating cheating against strangers or as part and parcel of the game, but if everyone gets into the right spirit then you can really have fun in Blood Bowl, just seeing what you can get away with.

I have no clue what you were playing, but what a delightful write-up!

What is this "winning" you speak of?
