I had a complete blast painting these. They are all K-Resin, the new material that is supposed to be sandable. I didn't find it much better than the old soft poly and it was also harder to clean up. The actual figures are a joy to paint. Fallschirmjager: picture picture picture picture Commandoes: picture picture picture picture I did a dark version of the main colour, then sloshed a lighter shade over the main area of the garment and followed it with some highlights and then drybrushing. The camo jackets tended to make the pocket details etc disappear, so I went over those afterwards with a wash and some more drybrushing. As you can see, they aren't based yet, because I haven't decided what ruleset to base them for. Next up are the Afrika Korps. |

I REALLY like those! Nicely done. Mine are primed but not painted. I'll steal your pics to work on mine. Thanks, John |

Well done! I have painted a few of these new Airfix figs. I like the new material, the older soft stuff was just too bendy. It is called K-resin? I have yet to try sanding it. They are still great sculpts after all these years, timeless, proportional, classic! I am wrapping up my 8th Army guys and moving onto the DAK figs. Have you tried gluing them? I want to put some helmet heads on them. |

Very nice Mr 4th. I've got a whole bunch of the old poly versions of these. Your painting of the faces on the commandos is particularly nice, very natural. Any tips? CG |

Nicely done. I've slowly been painting some 54s myself. |

Thanks chaps. @ CG: I do faces by adding brown to a basic flesh tone and going over the whole face with that. Then go back to the basic shade and add as appropriate – a bit of red for ears, white to do the temples and bridge of the nose, etc. Eyes always a mid-grey or blue – black or dark brown looks really bad. You can't often see eye whites but they aren't white, they're really a super-pale flesh colour. Equally there should usually be some five o'clock shadow. Two mega discoveries: Coat d'Arms Horse Tone Dun is the *perfect* colour for blond hair, and Xtracrylix German Sandbraun is equally perfect for ginger hair. @ CS: Apparently you can straighten bent weapons with a dab of superglue, or by softening in boiling water then plunging them into cold. The best way to remove seams from K-Resin for me was with the edge of a new knife. Using metal files, a lot of seams didn't want to come off. I should photograph them more at interim points because from certain angles and when blown up on a 17" monitor I can see there are some faint seams still left. |
