Early Russian Hussars – Soum regiment. Yellow dolman, turquoise pelisse, white cloth shabraque with turquoise trim and monogram. Gay like Paris in the spring. I just finished 12 of them in 1/72. Awesome.

DELETEDNAME05 May 2011 2:30 p.m. PST

I like black Russian uniforms ….

1st volunteer horse cossack regiment of the Saint-Petersburg militia, named "Death-Bringers"
- black litwa-style coats and half-caftans and campaign pants with collars, cuffs and pant-leg stripes in dark sky blue, white/silver hussar style cords on the chest and white/silver metalwork, blue/white hussar sash, black leatherwork and black edged blue saddleclothes, black lances (all-blue pennats for the 5th or commander's hundred or colonel Yakhontov's hundred) ), low shako covered in short bearskin shako with white/silver trim including a death's head and cross-bones
- this was a Saint-Petersburg city (not region) regiment, founded by a Portuguese resident trader/trade-representative, "retired" lieutenant Don Joaquim-Antônio Gonçalves de Oliveira, and incorporating many foreigners

Aleksandriyvskiy hussar regiment
- black dolman, pelisse and dress pants (grey campaign pants), red collars and cuffs, white/silver cords and metalwork, red/white hussar sash, black trimmed red sabretaches and saddleclothes, black lances with pennants white over (likely) red and black by battalion, the various leather items a mix of red, white and black

Graf Saltykov's Moscow hussar regiment – later taken in to the army as the Irkutskiy hussar regiment
- as per the Aleksandriyvskiy hussars exccept : (i) raspberry replaces red, (ii) yellow/gold replaces white/silver, (iii) the dress pants are raspberry, and (iv) issue or use of lances not confirmed
- initially a privately raised regiment, paid for by the Saltykov family

I also like white Russians ….
Cuirassiers, Chevalier-Guards and Horse-Guards

And maybe off-white Russians (if they were a bit faded) ….
(from Pavel's reign) Yelisavetgradskiy hussar regiment
-straw-colored pelisse and dolman, red collar and cuffs, white pants, metalwork yellow/gold; red/white hussar sash, straw-colored sabertache.

Amicalement.

Flat Beer and Cold Pizza05 May 2011 10:19 p.m. PST

Grenadier a Cheval of the Guard: not too flashy, but very intimidating.

Russian Cuirassiers: see above. And remember kids, real Cuirassiers wore white.

For flash and colour: the Russian Pavlograd Hussar officer's uniform. Dark green with teal facings and plenty of gold lace makes a sharp combination.

JCBJCB05 May 2011 10:50 p.m. PST
