What was your first fantasy army? |
Thomas Whitten | 04 May 2011 1:17 p.m. PST |
Undead: It was a mix of Ral Partha, Games Workshop, and Grenadier. My favorite parts were the Grenadier war machines, Ral Partha cav, and GW's The Nightmare Legion – Mordini's Doomed Legion. |

The first miniatures I painted with the intent that they would be used as an army were 28mm faries I converted from Epic Eldar. I used them for Hordes of the Things. |

Had a boxed set of Grenadier's "Orcs of the Severed Hand". Re-bought them last year on eBay (ouch) and painted them as a Mordheim warband. First real "army" was a Warhammer Fantasy Battle Chaos Dwarf army, which I still have. w. |

My first one was a Brettonian army from GW. I might resurrect that with the new Perry plastics. |
Gallowglass | 04 May 2011 1:27 p.m. PST |
Orcs – Prince August fantasy moulds. I also had a medieval human army to oppose them, made using moulds from the same company. |
chuck05 | 04 May 2011 1:29 p.m. PST |
GW Orcs were the first figures I painted as an army. Chuck |

The first real fantasy army I painted were undead. Mainly skeletons, and a lot of them old plastic Citadel Skeleton Army. I had a blast putting them together! I had a bunch of orcs/goblins/hobgoblins painted for roleplaying purposes – perhaps 30 goblins and another 30 orcs – mostly pre-Warhammer Citadel* and Ral Partha. But they weren't an army as such. * I still love my Fiend Factory goblins! |

Citadel & Marauder Dwarfs! Still have them. |
Eli Arndt | 04 May 2011 2:08 p.m. PST |
Elves! Back in the late 70s early 80s my friends and I would comb the spinning racks of the local mega hobby shop for hours finding different minis we wanted. Heritage, Citadel, Ral Partha, Martian Metals and many others. When I say elves I mean a grand sylvan coalition. High Elves, wood elves, centaurs, satyrs, eagles, tree men, etc. Later I went with the Ral Partha orcs as my buddy had already "claimed" the goblins. -Eli |

"army" is such a loose term. CustomCast Beornings and Orcs of the Hand (1-2 packs of each) |
Timbo W | 04 May 2011 2:19 p.m. PST |
Ah, Prince August orcs like Mericanach and 21eRgt! still got them, spear-orcs, axe-orcs and sword-orcs, speed painted by spraying black, painting eyes and mouth red and a little dry brushing of aluminium for armour and brown for orc-rags. |
Jakse375 | 04 May 2011 2:20 p.m. PST |
orcs. Mostly GW but my absolute first paints were some mid 80's plastic D&D minis that came with paint. I was about 10 at the time when i got them. |
Angel Barracks | 04 May 2011 2:21 p.m. PST |
I started collecting Citadel Dwarves, but never really made and army of it. I guess the first decent sized army was Orcs that I sold to my friend so that we could both play and replaced them with Empire! My Empire army was a decent size and mix of makes. |
Patrick Sexton | 04 May 2011 2:26 p.m. PST |
The same as my current one. The Army of Mordor. Orcs,Haradrim, Easterlings and Olog-Hai. |

Gondor, using the old 1970's Minifigs ME, SS and historical ranges. I say Gondor because that was the major part, we tended to collect a bit of everything and call it our army. So I had some Dwarves and Uruks and Elves as well. Regards David B |

Normans. I thought they could whip anything. That's not only fantasy, it's hubris. I had fun trying though
