As voted by the members of TMP, here is a brand-new board for discussing swashbuckling and wargaming from the Renaissance through to the Napoleonic period. |

Redundant Pirates Board Yes and no. I wouldn't look for Three Musketeers under the Pirates board but I would under a Pirates/Swashbucking board! Jason Stafford, VA |

Goldwyrm | 04 May 2011 6:13 a.m. PST |
Cross-posting is precisely allowed for such cases! Why? I thought the new board proponents' point in having a separate board was to have a separate board. If all these new boards get created to be their own unique snowflakes, covering their own topics, then I don't think any topic on them should be cross-posted to any other board. |

Why not just rename the Pirates the Pirates & Swashbuckling board? All this anal-retentive categorizing has gotten very annoying. Even my bosses aren't this retentive--and that is saying something. |

'Swashbuckling' does not make 'Pirates' redundant, because Pirate games are NOT a subset of Swashbuckling games: they do have specific features. For instance, I doubt players of 'Flashing Blades' or Zorro games are deeply interested in ship model-making and naval actions. Besides, the time frame is not the same: while 'pirates' can at most include Jean Lafitte, 'swashbuckling' according to some encompasses 'The prisoner of Zenda'. TMP link Thus the two genres are overlapping, but only for a part; and other overlappings exist, such as 'pirates' and 'Renaissance' or '18th C.' battle reports, if the 'pirates' game involves a protracted land battle with, say, a Spanish garrison. Such do not make the 'Pirates' board redundant, but justify -indeed require- a cross-posting. In the same way, a swashbuckling 'Ruritanian' adventure can be cross-posted on a 19th C. messages board.
Each board corresponds to a distinct set, in the same way as 'Hearts' and 'Queens' represent different sets; *if* a new topic belongs to the intersection of the two sets ('Queen of Hearts' fashion), cross-post. |

Once upon a time in an analogy of The Geometry Page, there was a Quadrilateral board, and then someone said – I want a board for Squares on TGP.. And a majority of the Rectangles and Others said, all you Squares are Rectangles and part of the Quadrilaterals, but there were 30 Squares and they got their board
Then the Rhombuses said we are Rhombus and deserve a board, And the Squares were confused because they were Rhombuses too
But the Rhombuses just had a slightly different angle on what they did on TGP, so maybe they had a point?? and 30 Rhombuses formed a Rhombus Board
Some Rectangles rejoiced because they were always right, but not so with the Rhombuses. And then Parallelograms said we are a special kind of Rhombus and the Rhombuses said What??, and 40 Parallelograms formed a separate board
And the Parallelograms, a Rhombus, sometimes a Square, originally of the Quadrilateral Board (now left only to Rectangles and the neglected Trapezoids), did state: "Parallelogram discussions should equally be cross-posted on a Quadrilateral Board or the Square Board because they too are quadrilaterals and sometimes square" And yet those Parallelograms would also say: "General Quadrilateral discussion, or Rhombus discussion, or Square discussion is not applicable on the Parallelogram Board, because that's specifically for discussing Parallelograms and why we want to be separate." And the old Quadrilaterals, simply happy to have 4 sides, did lament because things had been better on TGP before. |
