Which miniature wargaming companies would you say do a great job of promoting their product? The ones that manage to get the word out, without being annoying or in your face or doing "too much" promotion?

Pictors Studio24 Apr 2011 6:08 p.m. PST

Games Workshop and Battlefront do a great job of promoting their product. They have rule systems that promote the product and sell the product in boxes that correspond with the units in the rules. It is a promotion style that obviously works well.

GZG are good at it. There's very little PR of any kind, but the enthusiasm for their stuff is massive. Basically, it's the quality, price and service themselves that are the promotion.

Sundance24 Apr 2011 8:13 p.m. PST

Agree with Pictors: GW and BF probably can't be beat.

Flat Beer and Cold Pizza24 Apr 2011 8:19 p.m. PST

Battlefront and Front Rank do the best job, as far as I'm concerned. The Perry twins do an "okay" job, but their failure to have photos of all their miniatures on their site can be more than a little annoying.

GW for sure.

Agreed about GW but on a far, smaller scale is Battlegames magazine. This quality mag is a bit of a one-man show.

The editor, Henry, appears here & elsewhere. He presents himself as a grounded, dcent chap who you'd be glad to game with.

I'm sure it's not contrived (he's too consistent for that) but I think it makes people look kindly on his product.

GW and Battlefront are miles ahead of the rest.

Dynaman878925 Apr 2011 4:28 a.m. PST

GHQ – pictures of almost every one of their minis on their site, and a message board.

Battlefront

GW and Battlefront are miles ahead of the rest.

They are indeed.
Shame people moan about their prices on one hand and praise their promotional efforts on the other.

They are able to spend soo much on promoting their goods as they have the cash to do so, and where does that cash come from… sales!

Warbeads25 Apr 2011 5:22 a.m. PST

Interesting that GZG is mentioned in both best and worst polls.

Eye of the Beholder thing?

Gracias,

Glenn

GW and Battlefront, with Warlord Games and Mantic following the bread crumb trail. Honestly though, all four are annoying, but extremely successful at moving product. The ones who aren't annoying aren't anywhere near as successful.

Warlord Games is doing it well. They don't send too many e-mails but what they do send is formatted well and adverts the products succinctly. Which means I read it. Good articles on their web site. They also rented a table at every HMGS convention I've been to for the last few years. I like them just being there to talk even if they're not selling stuff directly, or at least they weren't then.

Battlefront tries and looks good but their website is stupid slow.

I delete GW e-mails (I haven't unsubscribed yet as I'm lazy) without even reading them because I know it'll be overpriced; I'm not sure that's promoting their products very well.

Honestly though, all four are annoying

Curious..
How do they annoy you?

richarDISNEY25 Apr 2011 8:23 a.m. PST

Black Scorpion and Free Booter Minis…

Why do you NEED photos of Perry stuff? If you've bought their stuff before you know it'll be mouth-wateringly gorgeous! Ditto AB Figures.

emckinney25 Apr 2011 11:04 a.m. PST

GZG for any brand-new products. Older products with no photos, not so much.

Old Glory 25s
Splintered Light
Rebel Minis

Great customer service as well for them all!

MST3Klover25 Apr 2011 6:54 p.m. PST

Love 'em or hate 'em GW and Battle Front are really good at promotion. I also think Warlord Games is good. Unfortunately I am only working from print and online sources. I'm sure there are some companies that do a great job of promotion at conventions. Some day I'd like to find out…

IronMike04 May 2011 8:05 p.m. PST

Games Workshop, without a doubt. If I have an interest in a GW product I can to directly to their website to get information about it and see the figures both assembled and on sprues in big clear pictures. I don't have to rely on blurry third party photos in 'Big Steves groovy gaming blog' If I want to order from GW I can safely place on order online using my credit card and not have to wait for four weeks because the head of the shipping department is down with a cold.

I am not a GW fan, but they market well.
FoW has a great product [not my scale] and they package it intelligently, using actual TO&E data for a pack of tanks or troops. Very smart.
Ambush Alley is excellent in their customer relations. They are friendly and fast.

Can't knock GW for advertising, no siree bob.

Everyone else are just amatuers (said with the best of intentions and not to be nasty) by comparison. GW's advertising budget must be at least an order of magnitude greater than their nearest miniatures rival.
