with the number of recent polls on TMP for the "best" whatever and subsequent calls for a definition of best is there one definition that we can agree upon. I see best as the best at doing their given job. any other definitions?

Derek H23 Apr 2011 2:39 p.m. PST

No, there there is absolutely no possibility of agreement on a definition of "best".

Next please.

Sundance23 Apr 2011 2:43 p.m. PST

In fact, there is absolutely no possibility of agreement on a definition of anything. Especially on the Napoleonics boards. Democracy at its finest.

Korvessa23 Apr 2011 2:55 p.m. PST

It's the fact that you can't that makes it interesting discussion

Pierce Inverarity23 Apr 2011 3:23 p.m. PST

If the job they're doing is meaningless, they can't be best meaningfully.

Pierce Inverarity23 Apr 2011 3:28 p.m. PST

In fact, this thread merits a poll to test the hypothesis.

You're asking for the best definition of the word "best"?

Sorry that is self-referential, almost like a temporal paradox type thing where you kill your own father before your birth.

You always, always have to define what you mean by "best", just like kennel clubs have standards for "Best in Breed", you need to lay out what you mean by "best".

cloudcaptain23 Apr 2011 4:15 p.m. PST

If I see a thread asking "What's the best line of…" or so on…I just skip it. It prevents me from insulting the poster. It shows a complete lack of forethought.

I hate contests where opinions choose who "wins".

The only true sport, the only positively inarguable defining method, is auto racing. OPEN auto racing. "Best" in that context actually means something….

What level are we talking? NASCAR? Formula? Indy Racers? Dirt Track? Amateur Stock?

And if you believe that auto racing is A: The only "true" sport, and B: Where it's the only positevely inarguable defining method, then you've never:

A: Worked on a pit crew
B: Listened to Danica Patrick
C: Watched the antics of Jimmy Johnson and Tony Stewart….

I think you'd change your mind then, Doug….

We won't take you to the swimsuit competition this year, then…

Grand Duke Natokina23 Apr 2011 5:42 p.m. PST

TMP has a Swimsuit Competition? Alright!
Weaselhoffen, who agrees that "best" is very subjective.

raducci23 Apr 2011 11:58 p.m. PST

The OFM in a bathing suit?

I'll pass.

Warbeads24 Apr 2011 4:36 a.m. PST

If you have him stifled does that mean you won't see him in his bathing suit?

Gracias,

Glenn

A TMP swimsuit competition?

Quick, pass the brain bleach…

Angel Barracks24 Apr 2011 8:34 a.m. PST

oooh is those one of those strange self evolving fulfilling infinite repeating loops polls.

John the OFM24 Apr 2011 9:38 a.m. PST

There is a very easy definition of "best". And, that is what *I* like.

No one else's opinion matters, so who needs a Poll?

Whatever agrees with you

I had a director once who used to say "I don't always know what good is, but I know bad when I see it."
He was probably quoting someone else, but you can use a similar criterion to work your way toward "best" or at least help to move you further away from "rubbish".

My Mom's apple pie is the best !!!

From which, kyoteblue, I deduce that you must thereore be one of my siblings.

Oh, and the OFM is right, except it's my opinion that matters.

Do we still get pooch-apartmented for agreeing with the OFM ?
