I am not able to access the invaluable Major General Tremorden Rederring's Colonial Wargaming website The site used to be here: zeitcom.com/majgen Anybody else able to access? I know its been years since it was updated but I hope it isn't gone for good. |

Sad but all things pass. I hope this is just a temporary thing but would not be surprised. It has been a while since it was updated and people move on to other things. Al |

Yah, I haven't seen David Helber in ages. He used to pop by our local gaming store every great once in a while, but its been a year or more since I last saw him. He may have transitioned from wargaming to model railroading as his primary hobby nowadays. Dave |

A sad day. I was really inspired by the website and am very sorry to see it go. Paul – thanks very much for the link. It helped in softening the blow. |

That website also inspired me and is the one site I have always suggested to anybody looking to see what a good miniatures gaming group can do. -Eli |

I have seen this one before. The hosting site is probably doing maintenance. But I'll fire off a note to the gang and find out! |

As pointed out above, the General has been "incommunicado" for short periods in the past. I can only hope and pray he will return to the ranks with dispatch. After starting my career, getting married and having children, I drifted away from the world of miniature wargaming in general and colonials in particular, and it was discovering the General's site that rekindled my love of the hobby. The Red Shadow site is still up and running, so let's hope the General joins him before too much longer. It would be a painfully lesser "inter-web" without him! |

Like all of you, I am sad to see it go. But we must remember that he kept it up for years – at least five – after he stopped adding to the site. So, perhaps we should be thankful for the time it was up. If it is indeed gone that is unfortunate but perhaps someone will step up now and provide something as good, maybe even better. Certainly there is a need for a similar site but more up to date. So, I for one prefer to offer my thanks to David and his group for what they shared with all of us for so many years and wish him the best as he moves forward with his life – and maybe secretly hope he'll rejoin us one day. If not, well, it was great while it lasted. So, I guess I'll lace my twinges of regret with a large dose of gratitude. |

Truly a loss. It would still be a place one unfamiliar with the gaming genre could stumble upon and be inspired to start in a new direction, especially as there are a heck of a lot of pointers to it. Definitely, have to cherish the yeoman service it's done before, though. I, for one, would direct anyone interested, to the VSF forum at Lead Adventures. Any other 'first page' ideas? "Yours in a White Wine Sauce!" and "Colonel Marbles"would rate high

I wonder if something could be made to fill the void there. I know that the various blogs out there provide a lot of good inspiration and information, but they are all over the place. The Major General's page was such a great central location for info and inspiration. The group had such a fun and open dynamic and their way of gaming was the standard I always aspired to. -Eli |

From the Colonial Wars Yahoo Group: There is no cause for panic, Gentlemen Adventurers. A courier reports that the Major-General is still secure in his headquarters at Tel al Taradidl. The lack of communication is entirely due to the industry of the local tribes in cutting the telegraph line. Repair crews and mounted patrols are being organized to deal with the difficulty. Expect a resumption of service soon. ----- In more prosaic terms, Zeitcom's hireling website coder-maintainer has left undone those things which he ought to have done. Furthermore, he has apparently vanished with all the tools for their correction, as all of Alan's attempts to reach him remain unanswered. Unless he resurfaces, there will be considerable sorting out to do. Alan and I have agreed that the best thing to do is permanently to move the Maj. General's site to my own server space, and set a pointer from the old to the new location whenever the Zeitcom pages become accessible again. Alan has carried the M-G's site on his server space since the beginning, and deserves a round of raised glasses for his generosity. There is no problem with the files and photos – they are backed up in multiplicate. But I am facing some mundane but serious deadlines and responsibilities at the moment, which will prevent me from doing the editing and uploading for at least a week and more likely two. Once the site is up, I may ask your help in replacing the deadwood links with those for current manufacturers and personal sites of good quality, since I have been largely out of touch with the hobby for some years. I have noted people's kind offers to provide mirror sites, and will probably take advantage of one of those offers. I am hoping the sudden necessity of working with the site again will spur me to complete some of the modest updates which I have planned for it over the last several years. Heartfelt thanks for all the concern and the kind words from admirers of the site. Please rest assured I will not let the Major General's Page vanish in the foreseeable future. Though admittedly I have been neglectful of it, I love it as much as you do. -- David ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori Brom Sergeants 3 |

Gentlemen and Ladies, A lot of sites are going down all over the Web. But, If you still want to access even the old information for this site, or almost ANY other, do the following (not all are archived, but I've not missed any yet!): Go to archive.org Select "The Wayback Machine" Enter the URL of the original site. If the Archives have it, you can select from all captures from the beginning when the Archives started recording. NOTE: If for some strange reason, you posted a site you're no longer proud of, it * might * still be available. Example: The Major General's site can be accessed using THIS URL for this date of recording: link You may (depending on the speed of your connection), wish to select the "Impatient" link. It still works, and it would appear even the external links work to an extent. The MG's site hadn't been updated since June '06, but has been captured until '09 (I believe). It would appear the Archives do a 10 yr. snapshot as long as the site remains active. I do not know what became of their Ouargistan group, but I wish them well, and hope they'll come back. UPDATE!
And apparently, I missed that prior response by the General himself, but, if it helps with the restoration and links as suggested, the WayBack Machine may prove useful here as well. Maj. Ascherre (Post edited for clarity and spelling errors.) |
