Just got a heads up that Empress are releasing a privately commissioned range of Maori War figures for the Flagstaff War, Maoris and Brits, photos can be seen on the Lead Adventures forum, sculpted by the fiendish Paul Hicks! Ooh my aching wallet…

Well, it looks like I've found a new project to spend my hard earned money… Now, where can I found some good books on the wars?

Seems like this would be the place to ask:

Fantastic!

They are very nice and would seem to be for the 1840s. They would be useful for other periods such as Sikh wars or even as British Legion for the Carlist War.

I forgot to say the following:

These are very nice figures. I covet them. Rather badly.

There y'go.

I could really use those British I hope there will be some sailors

Big Martin16 Mar 2011 6:22 a.m. PST

The British will be useful for all sorts of things I've fancied doing and I too hope they'll do sailors as well.

On my blog I've got some background info from the gamer who has commissioned this new range from Empress Miniatures:

I highly recommend "The Colonial New Zealand Wars" by Tim Ryan and Bill Parham.

Nick, if anyone buys that excellent book, make sure they get the second edition, which is packed with colour photos of (good) reenactors. The first edition doesn't have these pictures.

Well hopefully by the time they come out with the NWF stuff mentioned I'll have some money!

Ok now what about rules for these lovelies!

Arteis16 Mar 2011 5:31 p.m. PST

'Sharp Practice' is going to be my choice, initially anyway.

I just broke down and ordered some Moderns. I saw "Battle:L.A. " and they looked perfect.

Would love to see your unit details Arteis…..

The scuplting is very nice. They do have a great range of lovely figures.

Don't forget that many of the British Legion figures in the Perries' First Carlist War range are suitable for the early New Zealand Wars….including the rocket set.
