Here's something I worked over this weekend, Spenkuch flat toy warships. Bought as unpainted castings from Berliner Zinnfiguren. Although I think they are recently cast, the engravings themselves are quite old, toys for German kids back in the heyday of Tirpitz and the Kaiser.

They're fun to paint. As they're rather fanciful, there's no pressure to represent as any particular prototype, or as belonging to any historical country for that matter.

very nice paint job. Something appealing about 'toys'.

You did a nice job of painting those. I saw a bunch of those at a toy soldier show about 5 years ago. Unfortunately I did not get back to buy them. Will have to give them a look. Really nice but Im not sure what I would do with them other than as display pieces.

Thanks, guys !

Really nice but Im not sure what I would do with them other than as display pieces.

I've been wondering about that myself. Old school rules would be in order, something like Jane's but with a simplified beer & pretzels flavor. The obstacle is the antique nature of the original figures. I don't care to bid against rich chaps via Vectis auction. Berliner Zinnfiguren has revived several, but by no means all. Meaning no cruisers, destroyers or torpedo boats (there is a sub). I suppose it's a matter of keeping an eye on eBay, or take a hand at making something myself.

These just cry out for sock-balls and a big livingroom.

Thanks for sharing this.
Great job painting them.
The colors and style of the ships look like Spanish and American from the SpanAm War 1898.
