The best song ever ? This is going to be a big poll list. Do you want to limit it to "military themed" or "used in a war movie" or something ? Some suggestions : Roland the headless Thompson gunner Werewolves of London Excitable Boy Blowing in the wind Highway 61 revisited Uncle Johns band Ripple Box of Rain This land is yor land The world turned upside down Blackleg Miner Lord Franklin's Lament New soft shoe Revolution Blues Don't go dancing down the darktown strutters ball Seasons Change Walk on gilded splinters Hang on, I've got to do something, back with more great tunes in a bit
.. :-) |

Minstrel Boy is a worthy addition, but the 'Rough Riders' version is lite beer! The version from "The Man Who Would Be King", with Bishop Heber's Hellfire-&-Damnation lyrics is the one you want. In similar vein, "Garryowen" is a classic. |

Favourite Pistol's tracks: 'No-one is Innocent' and 'Silly Thing'. But to keep with the general theme, what about Tenpole Tudor's "Swords of a Thousand Men"? |

British Grenadiers, Hearts of Oak, Bonnie Blue Flag has a cracking tune, but the contrived lyrics are verging on gibberish. The Marsellaise, (much as it pains me to admit it.) The Keel Row
D'Ye Ken John Peel Tipperary And I suppose that despite being not being the least bit martial, a generation of Britons would identify Vera Lynn's songs as the definitive music of WWII. |
