It's probably been done before, but that's no reason to not do it again
I'm not particular here. It could be a movie, TV show, TV miniseries

Tombstone, I make no claims for it being the best Western, and there are loads of others I like, but it's absolutely my favourite. In fact just making this post makes me want to get the DVD out and watch it again. |

I could be here all day! To avoid repetition, I'll stick to those that haven't been mentioned so far
Movies: The Missouri Breaks Heaven's Gate The 'Sabata' series Gunfighter Ulzana's Raid (if you can find an unbutchered edit!) The Big Country Chato's Land Dodge City The Quick & the Dead They Died with their Boots On Dances with Wolves Eagle's Wing Seraphim Falls Western Union How the West was Won Any of the Anthony Mann/James Stewart movies And there HAS to be an Audie Murphy movie on the list
but I can't decide on one! Made-forTV-movies: The Quick & the Dead (the Loiuis L'Amour adaptation with Sam Elliot & Tom Conti) The Tracker (UK release title: Dead or Alive) Mini-series: Son of the Morning Star

I'm always surprised nobody mentions Appaloosa. The original 3:10 to Yuma that actually bore some resemblance to the Elmore Leonard story. The remake would go on the opposite end of my spectrum. Joe Kidd |
Plynkes | 15 Feb 2011 6:32 a.m. PST |
I'm always surprised when people say they are surprised something hasn't been mentioned instead of just mentioning it themselves. Seems to me a rather egotistical thing to say, assuming as it does that everyone else should automatically share your views. That may not be what people mean when they say this, but it is how it comes across. |

'Western Union' has one of the greatest exchanges of dialogue: Scene is a line of men applying for work, several say "general labor" and get the reply "dollar a day, see the foreman", finally a small man in a suit and bowler hat gets to the front and says in a cultured English accent; "cook" "did you say 'cook'!" Men crowd around shouting and gesticulating. "Quiet!!
How do you cook sheep?" "There are seven ways of preparing mutton
" "Never mind that! Do you cook it with the hair on it?" "Certainly not!" Loud cheering from all the men. "Tell that old poisoner he's fired!" |

TV: Bonanza. The most popular American TV show of the 1960's. This show appealed to popular tastes without apology. It excelled as entertaining, family-friendly fare. Movie: Unforgiven is hard to beat. |
