Have His Own Board?

1)Yes
2)No
3)More boards lovely
I think it would make his stuff easier to find after it falls off the main page.

addendum: More boards lovely = Yes

CeruLucifus14 Feb 2011 7:02 p.m. PST

You can find all his posts with an author search, can't you?

There are Bleeped texts out to do the same to me, so I vote NO.

Who asked this joker14 Feb 2011 7:10 p.m. PST

No. I rather like some of his posts. That and OFM agrees with me if I say 'NO'.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER14 Feb 2011 7:11 p.m. PST

I can't find all my posts with an author search…

I think Tango 001's post are awesome.

Condottiere14 Feb 2011 7:22 p.m. PST

No. Tango's enthusiasm for the hobby is something more of us could use. Making fun of him regarding the quantity of his posts is rude.

aecurtis Fezian14 Feb 2011 7:28 p.m. PST

The one TMP poll I'd participate in is one to establish a Plagiarists and Poseurs board: for people to copy entire articles without citation and post them here, and for people to post links to others' work without ever once showing their own.

We have all heard that BME is back, but under a different moniker.

I know who I would propose as the New BME. Naming no names…

nevals14 Feb 2011 7:54 p.m. PST

Leave Tango alone. His ego is tiny, appreciation for the hobby huge.A rare bird on the TMP these days.

Sorry for the excess apostrophe. I understand there are people who hate the misplaced apostrophe out there.

Liberators14 Feb 2011 8:32 p.m. PST

One of the few posters here I read and comment on regularly because his post are interesting, fun, enthusiastic and actually pertain to the hobby.

If anything he should be given free gold star membership for life.

Ye's, 'some of u's di'slike that.

However, I have almost given up on that. I am going to concentrate instead on those who do not understand the difference between "less" and "fewer".

Less Is a guy I work with, and fewer was the guy who played Max Headroom!

Making fun of him regarding the quantity of his posts is rude.

I agree with that. I don't respond to every thing he posts,
but I sure check them out.

I <3 Tango.

Grand Duke Natokina14 Feb 2011 10:00 p.m. PST

Armand is okay. He might not have the grasp of English that a lot of us do, but he is enthusiastic. And as I am a trained historian: Yes, he should cite sources. But he does give a lot of credit to various artists in the hobby.

Is it me, or is this place feeling more and more like High School?

aecurtis Fezian14 Feb 2011 10:34 p.m. PST

Fine. You like plagiarists? I'll just refer you to the plagiarists to answer questions from now on. That should work out pretty well for ya.

I know who I would propose as the New BME. Naming no names…

That boat has sailed – BME is Battle Miniatures Emporium, and he just came out of the Dawghouse last week.

I also used to think Tango01 was a spoof by a regular with a dry sense of humour, and so disliked it. But the sheer volume of his posts suggests he really is what he is – an amusing furriner with puppy-dog enthusiasm and poor grasp of netiquette.

His plagiarism is of the mostly harmless variety I think. Just let him be.

Paddy

Old Bear15 Feb 2011 4:49 a.m. PST

I share Paddy's opinion. I was very suspect of Armand when he first showed up and still wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be a spoof, but the odds on that have greatly lengthened. The best way to dodge Armand is to look for subjects ending in a period, for that appears to be his callsign. Harmless, but nowhere near as worthy as some would imply. In fact, something of a whiff of Emperor's New Clothes going on here at times.

Karellian Knight15 Feb 2011 5:54 a.m. PST

"Is it me, or is this place feeling more and more like High School?"

More like Primary school.

I like Armand's posts as well he is just sharing what he has found and I for one appreciate that.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER15 Feb 2011 6:50 a.m. PST

All I wanted was ease of finding his stuff, and I've started a fire fight.

Norman D Landings15 Feb 2011 7:08 a.m. PST

Nice thing about Armand?

Whether you like his posts/style/language or not…

…you never find him sniping at other people's posts/style/language.

Just saying.

ancientsgamer15 Feb 2011 9:03 a.m. PST

Allen,

Plagerism only exists when one presents it as their own. While Armand could certainly remember to put quotation marks, etc. in his posts. After a couple of times, you get the drift that his intentions are noble. I do agree that he could at least put a link to the original article. What he tries to do is start a conversation. I happen to find what he posts useful but at times lengthly (and I am one that tends to be one of the 'wordiest' on here LOL!). It is difficult enough for us to understand English, I can only imagine what it is like for someone growing up with French.

This is one area that you and I will have to disagree, Allen. And this seems to be a rare case on my end of disagreeing with you :-) Lighten up a little and realize that TMP is not a bastion for academic pedagogy. Allowances need to be made and especially for someone like Armand who tries to converse in a second language. If anything, we can offer "constructive criticism" and ask him to post a link to what he copies. In this way, we can all benefit ;-)

aecurtis Fezian15 Feb 2011 9:14 a.m. PST

He claims the title "Dr." Perhaps academia or medicine is in a sadder state in the southern hemisphere than we are aware, but anyone who claims that honorific should know better--in any language.

The excuse of a language barrier is a canard. It's perfectly possible to become proficient in other languages besides one's native tongue. For the past few decades, it's become quite difficult to obtain an advanced degree in many fields without doing so.

The poster has been criticized quite sufficiently to get the point, if he chooses to take it on board. So I conclude that either there is nothing "noble" about it, or the poster is completely clueless, or it is a very extravagant wind-up.

highlandcatfrog15 Feb 2011 9:18 a.m. PST

Condottiere has it right.

And let us not forget his occasional delightful posts in which he asks "Why was the (U.S. or U.K., never anyone else) so evil in this instance?" The you-know-what storm starts, he feigns total innocence, and then he walks away.

I have a question for his fanboyz: Look at his profile – he puts "Dr." in front of his name. Assuming that is true, can any of you please explain how somebody gets a doctorate while remaining completely clueless about plagiarism?

GarrisonMiniatures15 Feb 2011 9:26 a.m. PST

He finds a lot of foreign language sites that would otherwise go unnoticed. OK, he doesn't always remember to say where he gets information from, and with 'Dr' in front of his name that is bad, but his posts are generally useful.

Stealth100015 Feb 2011 9:32 a.m. PST

Tango 001 is a cool guy. I like his stuff even if I cannot read all the links he sends me to.

richarDISNEY15 Feb 2011 9:54 a.m. PST

Usually, those are just crossposts to other sites (usually french blogs…).
Don't bother me none… I don't look at blogs anyway…

Isn't this type of thread Dawghousable?

highlandcatfrog15 Feb 2011 12:13 p.m. PST

Good question. Isn't plagiarism (IP theft) Dawghousable?

mex10mm15 Feb 2011 12:16 p.m. PST

Tango 001 only tries to make this site a little more fun, with links to stuff that, in his opinion, are interesting or hobby related. Nobody is forced to follow his link or even read his posts.
IMHO the fact he is or not a "Dr." is quite irrelevant to our hobby; as he does not, as far as I know, gives "profesional" or "medical" advice via TMP.
And I would think Armand can at least read french, (based in the fact that many of his posts refer to french language blogs or sites) so, I would guess he can read Spanish,French and some English. Not so bad for us third world "types" maybe "academia" or "medice" is not in such a sad state down south.

dvyws9, Jinx!! Now, according to my daughter's playground rules, you cannot post again until you buy me a coke.

Better make that a Diet Coke…

rmcaras15 Feb 2011 2:06 p.m. PST

After a few posts, I just learned NOT to read them.

They are easy to avoid, until he changes his handle.

Armand responds quite politely to requests, so I tend to enjoy his links. He could slow down a while, but hey, it's a free world.

And dare I suggest a stiffle if it is a problem. Not for me, as I continue my year of not using the button, but if it works for you, then go for it.

MajorB15 Feb 2011 3:46 p.m. PST

If anything, we can offer "constructive criticism" and ask him to post a link to what he copies. In this way, we can all benefit ;-)

I tried doing that. He just ignores it.

MajorB15 Feb 2011 3:48 p.m. PST

IMHO the fact he is or not a "Dr." is quite irrelevant to our hobby; as he does not, as far as I know, gives "profesional" or "medical" advice via TMP.

I think the inference was that he has a PhD, rather than that he is a medic.

kmahony11115 Feb 2011 4:41 p.m. PST

Who cares if he is a doctor, his posts and links are very good.

Every couple of months someone starts a post bagging Tango 001. I'm not sure why a very vocal minority object but at least his posts have something useful to wargaming, rather than "should x member be banned" or "should we have a poll about a poll" type of rubbish.

Cheers
kieran

"Should Tango 001…" – Well this is just silly. Or is it free speech ? Maybe it's silly free speech.

Striker15 Feb 2011 5:00 p.m. PST

I have no problem with his posts. It would seem if he's so horrible to just stifle him and be done with it.

But hey, on TMP there's always this:
