Can someone please tell me the length of the Russian 6 and 12 pound cannon, as well as the length of the 10 and 20 pound lincorn (unicorn)?

Thanks in advance,

ilodic.

barrels 12pdr med – 198cm, 12pdr lt – 156cm, 6 pdr – 162cm, 20 pdr – 129 cm, 10pdr – 135 cm, 10pdr horse 123 cm. but I suppose you want carrage included. I'm looking, I could tell you were the info is but its in Russian, but I'm still looking

Thanks Skip. I would have thought the 20 lb. Unicorn would have been longer than the 10 lber. Anyway, I am not interested in the length of the carriage, but just wanted to "adjust" (cut and file) my guns so they look right with the other barrels, as some manufactures do not scale the barrels the same length.

Since besides Prussians the other army I have is Russians and I'd like to find this out myself. check out the thread on Russian Artillery, theres lots of info if your computer can translate. The info I gave came from Napoleonic Artillery by DDS

"I would have thought the 20 lb. Unicorn would have been longer than the 10 lber."

Well, a Russian gunner might be surprised to read that, too. The 1/2-pud unicorn had a caliber of 6.102 diuymy (Russian inches), and the tube was 10.5 calibers long, so 64.071 diuymy. The 1/4-pud unicorn had a caliber of 4.84 diuymy, and the tube was 11 calibers long, so 53.24 diuymy.

I do wish that Western writers would not use pounds, when the Russians measured in funts and puds. A 6-funt gun is not the same as a 6pdr, and a 1/4-pud unicorn is not the same as a 10pdr.

See Table 13 here:

I have no idea why Microsoft translates the abbreviation for "kalibr" (caliber) as "feces"!!!

But the two adjacent columns headed by "feces" are for the length of the bore ("channel") in calibers, and the tube length overall in calibers.

besides being Microsoft translations aren't 100% on my computer. some sections are ok and others it doesn't touch.I think I can figure out from link I put up the differences w/ tis w/o this from scale drawlings. at least I'm going to try

I am still at a loss here. The table indicates barrel length in terms of calibre, and puts the barrel length of a 6 "pounder" longer than a 12 "pounder." I am looking for the OVERALL length of the barrel, not just the bore length for each of the 4 types of artillery which does not seem clear from the table.

Yep, a 6-funt cannon is 17 calibers overall. Its caliber is 3.76 diuymy (inches), so the overall length is 63.92 inches.

A "light" 12-funt cannon is 13 calibers overall. But the caliber is 4.76 inches, so the overall length is 61.88 inches.

However, a "heavy" 12-funt cannon is 16.5 calibers overall. It's caliber is the same as the light piece--4.76 inches--so its overall length is 78.54 inches, longer than the 6-funt tube.
