I think everyone has stuff they absolutely hate to paint. For me it is chinstraps. What do you hate the most? Cheers, Burkhard |

It varies from figure to figure for me! |
Andrew May1 | 23 Jan 2011 2:48 a.m. PST |
Oh, and it varies by scale too! |

Any form of bare skin, but especially faces. I love power armor, full face masks, enclosed helmets etc. Jeff |

Cavalry riders. Horses are fine, it's those guys on their backs I hate to paint! |
Plynkes | 23 Jan 2011 4:24 a.m. PST |
Wheel spokes, horses, the spare room. Horses are really just a mental block. There's nothing difficult about them, I just hate painting them and don't know why.

Tartans. I can do them, and they aren't even as tricky as a really good skin tone, but I just hate doing them. |

It definately varies on the period and army but generally limbers, followed by Cannon. |

Horses
oh and trucks and stuff that you need for WW2 games but are well
.a bit dull. Steve. |
Stronty Girl | 23 Jan 2011 5:01 a.m. PST |
It's not the proper painting, it's the undercoating! I loathe undercoating. Chainmail is a pain too. |
korsun0 | 23 Jan 2011 5:26 a.m. PST |
undercoating, horses and trucks. I love chainmail

Figures, as opposed to scenery or vehicles. I can paint them fairly well but incredibly slowly or I can paint them fairly quickly but rather badly. |

The nooks and crannies in a figure. Seems like no matter how much I turn a figure, I always find some angle that didn't get a small amount of paint in the crook of an arm, etc. |

What I detest painting are the black rubber around the rims of tank road wheels and return rollers – especially for things with loads of wheels like the Panzer IV, T-26, etc. Bingo! You beat me to it. I have several tanks that are complete, except for the rubber on the road wheels. I don't know if I will ever get around to painting them, I have mentally checked out on those paint projects and taken them off my modeling table, even though I know the road wheels are calling my name. |

Napoleonics, yet I like painting SYW. It's just something about Napoleonic uniforms that really irritates me. |

Horses. As said above, it isn't the difficulty so it's probably the monotony. Curiously, the way I dealt with it recently was by painting almost a whole army's worth (100+ 15mm horses) before anything else. It meant I could do a whole load in each colour which seemed to save time. |
Delthos | 23 Jan 2011 8:03 a.m. PST |
There is nothing I absolutely hate painting. |
SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER | 23 Jan 2011 8:09 a.m. PST |
Eyes for personalities and RPG figures. I don't usually do eyes in 25/28mm armies, but made an exception for my Picts. I was a loony by the end. What honey? She says not that recently. |

I agree on the tank wheels. Now depending on the finish, I use Mig powders or the Tamiya pens for mud and cover it up . Yes you still see the wheels but the effect looks good. |

Re: nooks and crannies- that's why I do a dark brown wash first to fill all those in. Re: rubber rims on tank wheels. My tanks are very muddy so the wheels and tracks are all brown and spattered. I hate painting Renaissance figures and anything Ottoman. Damned hard to find references that match the figure so you know what the heck that thing on the figure actually is! |

Horses. Gauls. which make mounted Gauls the absolute worst ever. If I never have to paint another Gaul again it won't be too soon. |

I hate painting black because it is hard to get a good highlight on it without the black looking dark grey. |
Saber6 | 23 Jan 2011 11:06 a.m. PST |
Turnbacks. I only do it for cavalry as they are hidden on most infantry (15mm) |

Yeah, Limbers, limber riders, limber horse teams. I hate these most of all. mjc |

Mobs of irregular troops, or militia-type forces wearing mostly civilian clothing. Uniformed troops I can power through very quickly without losing quality, but civilians--especially mobs--always slow my painting to a crawl. --- historicalwargames.net |

What I detest painting are the black rubber around the rims of tank road wheels and return rollers – especially for things with loads of wheels like the Panzer IV, T-26, etc. Try using a marker pen. This works really well for horse bridles, straps etc According to my wife the only way to get the house painted would be to shrink it to 1/72 scale |

Horses. Bores me to f$%#*&@ tears, almost literally. One of my favorite things about having a Feudal Japanese army is the ratio of foot troops to mounted: 10-to-1. |
Grand Duke Natokina | 30 Mar 2011 9:41 p.m. PST |
Dapple Gray Horses. Which is a pain, because one of my favorite cav regiments is the Scots Grays. Weaselhoffen. |

British Infantry Napoleonics first you have the primarily white lacing and straps then the straps on the backpack and rolled greatcoat. They are obvious if left off even in 6mm |

EYES. I f'n hate painting eyes. annd of course, chinstraps & horses. But eyes
they're the worst. |
