After seeing some of these neat dice towers on a TMP tread… TMP link
I was thinking…

Do you use a dice tower in your games?

1) All the time – I love them.
2) Sometimes – when I remember to get them out
3) Never – Those look dorky on a table.
4) Whats a dice tower?
5) Nope. I use a dice tray.

No, I use a small container, but only because the dice do not roll well on my flocked Hexon II terrain.

Sysiphus20 Jan 2011 8:23 a.m. PST

No, flat low walled box.

Never.
I throw my Buckets O'Dice on the table, and pick the ones up that fell on the floor and roll them again.
That's the way Nature intended.

Gathrawn5020 Jan 2011 8:31 a.m. PST

I actually hurl the dice viciously at the other players until they just allow me to do whatever I want. True Story.

I'm not sure I've ever seen one of these in use.

And 6) I haven't found the perfect dice tower.

Bob in Edmonton20 Jan 2011 9:33 a.m. PST

3. Why clutter the table further?

pphalen20 Jan 2011 9:42 a.m. PST

I throw fistfulls of dice at the table, and try to knock down as many figures as I possibly can…

ancientsgamer20 Jan 2011 10:00 a.m. PST

I like re-rolling cocked dice; with the exception of when they are sixes! LOL

I feel that dice towers further remove you from playing the game. Just another step towards automation and computer games. If all I wanted was a computer game, I wouldn't collect and paint miniatures….

DeanMoto20 Jan 2011 10:01 a.m. PST

I suppose #3; but it's like the pot calling the kettle black.

Scorpio20 Jan 2011 10:08 a.m. PST

Nope, never.

Delthos20 Jan 2011 10:27 a.m. PST

Nope, they aren't really that convenient. I also like how a hand full of dice scatters all over the table and off from time to time. The experience is just much more satisfying without one.

Porkmann20 Jan 2011 10:30 a.m. PST

Useless things but if I was going to get one this would be the chappie:

whill420 Jan 2011 11:01 a.m. PST

Never. I roll'em on the table.

Dark Knights And Bloody Dawns20 Jan 2011 11:19 a.m. PST

Yes for participants at conventions. I got fed up with hunting for dice after a show finished.

Lentulus20 Jan 2011 11:20 a.m. PST

I'm tempted. My "No" is more "I have never gotten round to trying" than "I won't"

Could you add a "Might, never tried" option?

Anyone tried the litko ones?

Steve Johnson20 Jan 2011 11:25 a.m. PST

2) for me.

Toaster20 Jan 2011 11:37 a.m. PST

2 here as well

CeruLucifus20 Jan 2011 12:57 p.m. PST

No. Would like to build one just to show off my modeling skills, but practically speaking a dice cup, or dice cup with dice tray, are faster, more flexible, contain the dice just as well, and are just as random.

Sorry so my poll response is #8/#7.

7) I use a dice cup.
8) #7 and #5

Only if I get a lego one or one like porkman's post.

6. When the tower fits with the terrain of the table/game being played.

Tacitus21 Jan 2011 10:40 p.m. PST

What wargamer said.

GiantMonster22 Jan 2011 2:08 p.m. PST

Nope. I prefer a box if space to roll is limited.

number413 Jan 2012 11:40 p.m. PST

No, my dice are self propelled :)

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP15 Jan 2012 5:59 p.m. PST

3, a clear spot on the table is fine. But I do have enough lego to build one.

Patrice18 Jan 2012 3:16 a.m. PST

No. I hate to see things on the table it spoils my view of the gaming terrain and landscape.

pahoota18 Jan 2012 4:45 p.m. PST

Sgt Slag26 Jan 2012 8:12 a.m. PST

Just bought one from Fat Dragon Games, their latest model: volcano with red Dragon on the cone top. Should fit nicely on the tabletop, in my fantasy games. Still need to assemble it, and then try it, of course. Cheers!

I would use them especially for some kids games I do. I have seen some fantastic ones over the years here on TMP.
