Bought some Redoubt a while back at a convention and would love to get some more. Is my only option a direct buy? Never purchased across the pond. What are the hassles?

Any help or advice requested.

I've never bought Redoubt from England but I've bought from a variety of others without any difficulty. I always use a credit card because it covers me to some degree – I hate the advent of PayPal! – and I've never had any problems. In fact, I've had exemplary service. Especially from Irregular and QRF and also Peter Pig. I've also ordered without challenges from East Riding Miniature. Also had success with orders out of Australia and New Zealand so give it a go and make an order. Just pay careful attention to the exchange rate and the postal rate. If you pay by credit card they should only charge you cost for shipping. If they still want to charge you 30% (or whatever) for shipping move along to another supplier – unless it is a very small order in which case 30% might be a great deal less than cost for the shipper.

Last I knew Age of Glory was carrying some of their lines. But that may not be true any longer.

I do not think there are any US distributors, since Miniature Service Center stopped carrying the line. I've ordered from the UK, Germany, Italy, and France over the years and never had a single problem. Once, I received an order within five days of ordering. Although, I never ordered directly from Redoubt, having quenched my thirst for their Renaissance range with MSC's huge discounts upon discontinuing the line a couple of years ago.

I've placed a number of direct orders from Redoubt and orders arrived quickly with no hassle from the the UK to USA. Postage is charged at cost.

Ditto to Freitag's comments – no hassle.

I have ordered from them also and always got my toys promptly. My last order just arrived after spending time in NY being inspected (based on previous TMP postings) for terrorist packaging (talk about a Forlorn Hope). I paid w/ CC thru pay pal and when I grew concerned that the package had been lost I notified Pay pal and they notified Redoubt. Trevor took good care of me. They are quite trustworthy. I also endorse the use of PP as they will go to bat for you.

Same here I get My stuff in about 3-4 weeks and never had a problem.

I no longer carry Redoubt as I stocked it through MSC.

raylev320 Jan 2011 4:44 p.m. PST

Whoa, postage at cost. That's a great deal, given the amount of postage some vendors charge.

I ordered all my Redoubt Miniatures 1882 British and 1882 Egyptians through Miniature Service Center before Dave discontinued carrying them (ordering from MSC was a joy and Dave did his best to take care of me). Anyway, I'd love to order some more figures (especially the Trojan War range). But I guess I'd have to place the order on their UK website. Though I could use an extra Naval Brigade officer, I just don't see myself ordering from Redoubt Enterprises in the near future…

It's the exchange rate that puts me off. I have been wanting to pick up some Redoubt ACW and Baker Co. Vietnam stuff but no one carries them in the U.S.

Stormchaser,
My friends and I have purchased direct from England on several occasions. Generally I collect the necessary dollars, take them to an exchange place in the mall near me, and send cash. Never had a problem.

I wish someone would carry them again in the US. I would like to pick up some of the FIW and ACW.

Wow guys, I'm pretty shocked at some of you. It's not like you're going to order from Cambodia.

Also, anyone stocking the stuff here in the states is going to be buying in UK prices and passing that on to you anyway.

Make a small order if you need reassurance, then go for it.

I live in the wilds of Vermont and have yet to purchase a figure from a bricks and mortar store. I regularly order from Front Rank, Baccus, and Thegallopingmajor. All top blokes and located in the UK.

Anyone knows why MSC stopped carrying Redoubt and for that matter GMB flags? I use to really like ordering from them. I seem to recall the last time I looked at MSC's website it was mostly 40mm figs. I guess it's a niche. Ordering from the UK is not like ordering from Cambodia but sometimes it's like ordering from Mars. The far side of Mars.

Rallynow,
The reason I stopped carrying Redoubt, GMB, Front Rank, Etc. is because I wanted to have some more free time and also game more with my friends. I chose to go with 40mm Trident Designs and Vanguard Men-at-arms ranges because we could start at the bottom and build our company up, which I really enjoy doing. Also, I'm at a point where I enjoy the larger figures anyway.

I'm game. Placed my first-ever order online with Redoubt on 2012-08-07, and paid via PayPal. The packet was posted on 2012-08-17 (from the information on the customs declaration, AND the Royal Mail stamp). The packet was just received today; 2012-08-27.

I'll say of the Redoubt F&IW figures I ordered, that upon comparing them to some Front Rank British I have, it would appear Redoubt figures are "tall," shall we say 30mm vice 28mm? However, as I have often said to a local shopkeeper in speaking of the variance between the various Dixon, Eureka, FR, and OG SYW?F&IW figures I am already using -- "So they are not all exactly the same height; how tall are YOU!?" I plan to order from Trevor again soon.

flashman228 Aug 2012 9:01 a.m. PST

I ordered direct from them a few months ago. I really like their F&I range. It goes well with Galloping Major and North Star. I was not pleased with the shipping costs and packing though. The figures are placed into a shipping envelop….period. I had a number of broken musket barrels and in one case a missing hand. I also was charged around $25 USD on a 9 pack order and $17 USD on a 5 pack order for shipping. It took 3 weeks to get from the UK to Delaware. Which is reasonable. Also, one shipment went missing, and Trevor was willing to replace it. It arrived after the offer so, no harm, no foul.

I am glad I got my Naval Brigade before MSC dropped them. Very nice figures.

I would also prefer to order from someone in the states. The exchange rate and the time it takes to get here turns me off.

Any updates on if there is a U.S. vendor?

Disco Joe25 Jun 2014 8:15 a.m. PST

I don't believe anything has changed regarding this issue.
