Has anyone else heard that Gripping Beast is going to produce/publish/sell (whatever) a set of rules covering the Dark Ages? If so can you share what you may have heard or know about scale and such as well as when they may be released?

Gecoren – Can you give any more info on them? Skirmish, large battle, basing? Any indications at all would be welcome.

I'm lucky enough to be in the playtest group for this game and I can give a few details, the game is a mid scale skirmish game with around 40+ figures a side which are arranged into small units of men and is meant to represent the type of small scale combats that took part in Dark Age Britain. It uses one of the most inventive concepts for commanding your troops that I have seen for a long time. It's not a standard I move, I fight, I run away type game it almost plays like a game of chess with players having to decide at the beginning of a turn what they want to attempt to do and also how they are going to react in their opponents turn, in this game you have to make a plan and stick to it or you will lose, you also have to second guess what your opponent or opponents will do in their turn.

I believe the game is due for release before the summer and is authored by Alex Buchel so it has a good pedigree

As a wargamer who had no interest in Dark Age gaming I am amazed at just how much I enjoy the game and a few friends who are interested in the period agree that it really captures the feel of a Dark Age raid, so much so they are all franticly painting up figures to use in the game and we are already talking about running a campaign over the summer

I don't think I can say that much more as Lord S may set his hounds on me the next time I visit Beast Towers
