My wife and I are planning a trip from the U.S. to London and Paris. It's our first and I was wondering if TMP members could suggest places to shop for 15mm, 25mm and 28mm figures in those cities. Things like Gripping Beast, Woodbine Design, Mirlton (could have spelling wrong) and Studio Miniatures to name a few are not available though U.S. Distributors. I have heard that there aren't many/any shops in London because of high rent and many conventions held all year long throughout the country, but I thought it would we worth asking. I appreciate any direction you can give. Richard |

London is pretty sparse for figures. Orcs Nest, just off Shaftesbury Avenue, has some – lots of Reaper last time I was there (or whatever they are called today), some Ironwind metals Battletech stuff, loads of FOW, WOW and various collectable pre-paints (D&D, A&A, Star Wars et al). Navwar is open for about 20 minutes evary Saturday afternoon. Leisure Games out in Finchley has some, but stock levels vary – the staff are top notch, though, and I'm sure if there is something you wanted to order-in in advance they would probably accomodate. That's probably it for London as far as non-GW/FOW figures are concerned. Figure buying in the UK tends to be done at Cons or via mail order. If you have some flexibility in the dates then I'd suggest trying to link up with one of the bigger shows like Salute 2011 (16th April this year) when you will have far, far more options. G. |

Goober has pretty much covered it as far as London is concerned. |

Essex Miniatures on Canvey Island. But yes tough to run a wargames shop in the UK. |

If you are an Essex fan their factory is east of London, IIRC around 30 minutes by train and then a couple of miles from the station. |

The only store I know of in Paris is L'Oeuf Cube oeufcube.com Mostly RPG with some boardgames and collectable minis. |

Last summer I chanced upon a store stocking FOW, Victrix and Perry stuff near the Maubert-Mutualité metro station and, more importantly, Notre Dame. Can't for the life of me remember its name though. |

Yes, shops are a thing of the past – as a kid used to have happy saturdays going from one shop to another – too many to get round them all in one day – not possible now : centrally there's Orcs Nest and that's it. Shame. |
