Which single change do you think would make 2011 TMP a better forum than 2010 TMP? An updated visual style. Ability to show pictures in posts. Greater differentiation between "paid" and "free" members. Complete overhaul of boards. Improved/universal PM functions (including mass delete). More stringent/hardline poor behaviour penalties. Succession planning. Automated EMail/RSS notifications. Full function search facility Personal "favourites" One single change is not enough to achieve that. OMG where do I start
Needs no improvement, we love it just as it is. Just a bit of fun, please no more board bashing, there are already enough threads for that. For me; I would like to see the search function improved, so that search terms are highlighted when found and to have the ability to nominate which boards to search/not search in. |

Fewer boards, and a blanket ban on requests for more boards. <edit> and a limit on the number of boards that can be crossposted to. Any more than three and it belongs on Wargaming in General or TMP Talk. <edit. to the previous edit> Derek H posted before the edit. |

And, before some Luddite with a dialup connection starts complaining about pictures eating bandwidth, I'd like to point out that you can turn the things off in your browser. |

What is that? Is someone planning to assassinate Bill? |
John the OFM | 24 Dec 2010 10:05 a.m. PST |
Mass delete PMs. Also, put them on 50 posts per page. I have over 3000 of them, and they are all on one page. No wonder it takes so long to load. |

"And, before some Luddite with a dialup connection starts complaining about pictures eating bandwidth, I'd like to point out that you can turn the things off in your browser." Would that be the same kinda "turn off" ability that people can use to not see boards they aren't interested in? |
Silurian | 24 Dec 2010 10:41 a.m. PST |
Piccies. It is a very visual hobby after all. And way fewer boards. |

How many times do people have to explain that the ability to turn off boards doesn't solve all of the problems the existence of too many boards causes. |

I'm going to go with board consolidation too. Some of them are just so esoteric, and I wouldn't mind seeing them reduced to 10 or 12 boards. At least less than 20. And allowing pictures would be cool too, and shouldn't be too difficult to pull off. |
Neotacha | 24 Dec 2010 11:48 a.m. PST |
I was just going to suggest being nicer to each other, and a tadge more tolerant. But pictures would be nice. Edit: How would you suggest greater differentiation between paid and free memberships? |
Goldwyrm | 24 Dec 2010 12:45 p.m. PST |
I'd suggest early 2003 as a workable template. If not, perhaps a switch to phpBB for just the discussion forums. |
RavenscraftCybernetics | 24 Dec 2010 1:24 p.m. PST |
I vote no on pictures. Not because Im a Luddite but simoly to protect Bill and this site from liability. NSFW in the title doesnt cover the possibility of exposing minors to porn. You know it will happen eventually
YMMV, R. |

Well, love it as I do, this forum is way clunky when compared to other sites, but I'm not the big boss. |

A search function that works. With Bolean operators. That allows you to search a given board or multiple boards or postings from individual members. And properly implemented RSS feeds on TMP news, TMP boards, board topics, TMP members and TMP searches. The sort of stuff that comes as standard with most community websites created in the 21st Century. |

How about updating the old lists of miniature and rules lists manufacturers. I realize the lists grow at an near exponential rate but those lists are what first brought me to TMP many a year ago. |
Andrew May1 | 24 Dec 2010 5:30 p.m. PST |
Putting pictures in the posts would be good. But what would really help me would be some sort of icon (something really simple like an asterisk or an exclamation mark) that would appear next to all the threads I have contributed to. I often lose track of the threads I have written on, especially when they drop off the front page. Anything that helps me kee track of them would be a good thing! And Merry Christmas everyone! |
aecurtis | 24 Dec 2010 7:45 p.m. PST |
We should remind members that there are image hosting services available that don't take up TMP bandwidth, and suggest they use them and link to them. Allen |

How about updating the old lists of miniature and rules lists manufacturers. I realize the lists grow at an near exponential rate but those lists are what first brought me to TMP many a year ago. Took the words right out of my mouth (yucky, I know). Or instead of updating them, provide a listing with links of existing comparisons maintained on other web sites (like at Extra Crispy Deep Fried Mice's site). |
Space Monkey | 24 Dec 2010 9:08 p.m. PST |
Board consolidation is the only one with any appeal for me. Having pictures 'sounds' nice but IMO it would lead to a big freaking mess
on top of the smaller, comfortably homey mess that's already here. |

I often lose track of the threads I have written on An author search for your own name will do that for you. It would be nice to have a "flagged thread" list for those discussions you want to track without posting on them. |

and we cant have pictures in tmp because we are trying to stop the worst picture
Zardoz But wouldn't that actually eliminate the Zardozing? The whole thing with that is inducing the victim click on the offending image. It's not as funny when the victim sees it coming. |

Can we have a stifle amnesty, I had none for ages, then gained 1 at some point a while ago, just gained another for supporting DH. some people have loads, maybe a 2011 clearout, i'm sure not all are still valid, or am i just being too sensitive? |
