Are Foundry Miniatures worth the high price? |
x42brown | 13 Dec 2010 4:26 a.m. PST |
Yes or they would not be getting bought. x42 Edit: I had to say that as I am in the process of buying some. |

Some are, and it depends on your taste. While you can get good quality casts for less money from other companies, many of Foundry's lines are very complete and the figures still look good. Of course some company's prices have come close to Foundry's in the past few years. Many will also tell you that all packs are 6 figures and not 8, but many of the regular packs of rank and file till are 8 figures. Examples are Napoleonics, Greeks, etc. I've found the 6 figure packs to be command and more rare subjects like Wild West and characters. They're exchange rate for the US blows right now so they do end up costing you a bit more. I've always been very happy with the quality of the figures from Foundry and they are very enjoyable to paint up and they remain on of my favorites to do. We just finished up a collection of the Greek Mythological characters for a customer and they came out just gorgeous (I will have pics up on our blog later today of them). |

Must admit the question is quite subjective. Yes they are the price if it's a range you are interested in. For me they are worth it as it's only them and Mongoose that produce 2000ad figures. |

Look on Ebay. I just sold 12 Foundry pirates for $12 USD That is a pretty good deal. |

I love the Foundry figures for skirmish games and for that find them worth the price. I don't think I'd fill out a big battles army with them, though. |

For me, no. They are NOT better than figures half or a third the price. Anyone who thinks so is delusional, and I have a bridge to sell you. |

No. Its the shipping that is the killer
. They wanted $17 USD for ONE pack of figs
Stopped me cold in my tracks.

Foundry make some great stuff and if you like the product then they are worth it. As far as price and currency, tell them you want to buy in Pounds and do the exchange on a website like xe.com to determine the real value. Them make sure they pull off the VAT at 17.5% before they charge you shipping. Or buy from a company like Caliver or North Star that sell in pounds. Example: B130 Wellington and Staff USA Price $52.00 USD Normal Price – $42.00 USD on sale at 20% off. North Star Price 25 GBP converted at todays rate $39.50 USD Caliver Books Price 25 GBP converted at todays rate $39.50 USD All UK companies that are in the VAT system should remove VAT at 17.5%. Be sure to request it. Then it boils down to shipping and the 5.9% variance on the Foundry conversion (while the Xmas sales is on) and if you can make it up on shipping or not. Norht Star is a fixed 25%, Foundry is variable up to Free with Volume, Caliver is free with orders over 16.50GBP Price is variable if you shop a little and you know what to ask. UK VAT goes up in 2011 another 2.5%. Good Luck. |

It's a personal call. My money goes elsewhere, except for the occasional deeply discounted liquidation sale or flea market purchase. |

Never ever pay full price for anything from Foundry. If you do then you're an idiot! Sign up to the Foundry newsletter and you'll receive a regular stream of various discounts and offers. Some of the more desperate ones are quite tempting

Must admit the question is quite subjective. Yes they are the price if it's a range you are interested in. Precisely. I've never regretted picking up the Street Violence figs that I did. Found uses in more than a few games over the years. |
John Leahy | 13 Dec 2010 1:54 p.m. PST |
Well, I like the Street Violence line too. However, I bought all of mine 2nd hand and paid a dollar or less per figure and I have the bulk of the line. Thanks, John |

Search Foundry on Ebay for Foundry for pennies auctions. |

Generally no. But I like their horses better than most and some of their personality figs are very nice. I will pay a premium for personality figs. mjc |

I don't regard them as high priced, but then I generally use a lot of my Foundry figures for RPG (and RPG figures can be expensive). Foundry are cheaper if bought in bulk and there are always various sales going on. I particularly like their regiment deals. I'm also in the UK ;-). |

They have some very nice ranges, but they're too rich for my blood at the moment. I could really use some of their AWI American light dragoons. |
HobbyGuy | 15 Dec 2010 9:20 a.m. PST |
I've got a handful left very reasonable along with a pile of other 20mm. PM or e-mail me at podette2002 at yahoo dot com |
HobbyGuy | 15 Dec 2010 9:20 a.m. PST |
Er
. I was assuming the 20mm figs but re-reading realized reference was to all their stuff
