Here's the layout:

So, what specific HO buildings would you recommend for the Norwegian station? Or for any Antarctica station for that matter?

Thanks,

Dan

They're fairly nondescript buildings. I think I'd use basic one-story wooden warheouses as a start: link link

But those buildings are so basic, I'd probably scratchbuild wargaming models out of plastic "wood" sheet, or even foamcore scribed with a wood grain pattern.

I'd have to throw in a few quonset huts, too: link link

Or convert from Ebobs POW camp buildings?

I like this idea, but I'd probably do it in 28mm. Just personal taste.

Some of the newer antarctic stations look like spaceships, but I found some good shots here:

and here:

Based on the pictures, the buildings look pretty straightforward. I'd probably slap something together with foamboard, plastic sheets and basswood. There alo seem to be a lot of shipping containers, which ought to be easy to find in HO scale.

You're also gonna need one of these, but no idea who makes that for 15mm:

You're also gonna need one of these…

Khurasan make these: picture

Not quite, but close-ish?

28mmMan10 Dec 2010 2:03 p.m. PST

That is a good choice :)

GZG also has a few like this one picture

I was thinking of that Khurasan vehicle, too.

Those ebob buildings look cool. And free! Consider them d/l'ed once I get home.

"d/l'ed" uuhhh say what? :)

Cacique Caribe10 Dec 2010 10:56 p.m. PST

"d/l'ed"

LOL. "Downloaded", perhaps?

Here's a nice pic of Outpost 31:

By the way, I'm sure I can't the be only one who thinks someone should consider making 15mm modern figures in winter gear, like these here:

Hmmm… Could you perhaps use those "desert" buildings from The scene? Augmented with maybe the GZG building addons??

You could easily make it with Ainsty terrain from Old Crow models in the UK. That entire layout would work great by using floor tiles and walls from their various ranges. However they have been sold on now – so I don't know where to buy them..

Also you could add some features from Copplestone. The Kiss Kiss Bang range has stuff for snow bases and has a great Snow-Cat and a whole mix of building fittings all 28mm. link

Old Crow don't sell Ainsty anymore – it's been sold on.

You are going to need a Nissen/Quonset hut, which is fairly easy to scratchbuild. There are a few posts here on TMP about it.

GruntZ & CC

Turns out Ainsty ended up 30 mins drive (across country roads) from me grin

The new site is ainstycastings.co.uk

Also CC – have you seen TMP link sure you where looking for a model like this for an Arctic base. Seem to remember a red and white building in the snow?!?

I saw a perfect Matchbox crawler just the other day, same colors, same tracks.

Should've grabbed it. Doh!

Dan, you have no idea how helpful these threads are for my Ice Station Romeo project.
