Only a few years ago there were loads of lovely 28mm Chinese Warring States figures by John Jenkins. And then they were gone. No longer offered for sale apparently.

Why?

Pictors Studio09 Dec 2010 9:36 p.m. PST

He started doing 54mm F&IW prepaints and made a lot more money at it, it wasn't worth putting the time and effort into selling the unpainted lead 28s anymore.

I don't quite get that. What time & effort? He already had photos and listings. He could cast to order and post them. What's the big deal? How is that so different from what he does now?

I know the quick answer is 'because it still takes time, and that time can go into the other stuff which makes more money", but does the other stuff take up sooo much of his time? Why not sell the range to a distributor to handle? Why just sit on them?

Make him an offer!

:)

I've spent all my money on a Napoleon statue.

On sold rights/moulds to a French company. I don't think they've done anything with them. There is a previous thread somewhere. They made other stuff, very pricey. Just another case of should have got them when I could.

French company? The plot thickens!

I'd like to do this period one day. But its way down my immediate & over-stuffed list of things to do… seriously nice range this, hope it sees the light of day again.

My regret is missing the comfy chariot… always meant to order one and missed it in the end. Does anyone have one for sale?

nycjadie10 Dec 2010 7:35 a.m. PST

French company? I tried to buy them from him some time ago, but he wasn't selling. I'd like to know who did, though. It's a great range.

Kinda like what Pictors Studio said above…

I talked to John via e-mail like five years ago or when WAB came out with their warring chinese book. Anyways, John said it was allot of work just to barely break even…

I really liked his proportions.

At that time I think he was living in China… I don't know what he's up to now…

I just had an email from him to the effect that he IS thinking about re-releasing the line, but NFI. I ain't getting any younger, so I would hope that would be sooner than later… beer

Fascinating -- five years ago almost to the day from his kindly reply to my email… Still no sign of a re-release. Sigh…

Well, I guess I will check out Watchful-I Studios.
