Hi all I have a urge to game the final shoot out from the movie "DISTRICT 9" does anyone have any suggestions which rules would be appropriate to this. Please note I am usually a Ancient and fantasy player so have zero knowledge of this period, please be gentle with me, and "Don't point your Bleeped text**g tenticles at me".

Tomorrow's War would be my first choice. If you do 15mm, it sounds like Ground Zero games is on the verge of releasing more prawns, including "something big" that might be useful.

Stargrunt II is worth a look alongside Tomorrow's War. Both are great, but the SG II rules are available free from the GZG web site.

I also downloaded Gruntz and they look like a lot of fun as well. And again, free. Any of these three would probably suit your needs well. I like 'em all!

"…something big…"

Oooooh if that means what I hope it means, I'll definiately be building a "not-prawn" army.

For terrain, here's a perfect fit for the slums of District 9:

I'd say Mutants and Death Ray Guns would be ideal for the end of District 9. I am a big fan of Tomorrow's War, but one light mech against some corporate mercenaries is I think too small for that game.

The free FUBAR rules would work as well…..

Great feed back chaps, a big thanks to all…CH

Reduction of the Warsaw ghetto in Sci-fi…hmmm…Only if you file a 700 pg. combat report as per Herr Dirlewanger.

I bought that card set. Because of watching District 9. It is somewhat fiddily to use though.

Thanks,

John

I just wish there were more pictures of people using them…

Don't forget the Nigerians, they're the faction I want to run, especially the leopard skin pick-up.

Hi Cacique, I looked at the photo and then went to the link below it, there's some great pics of a sci fi game at that blog, I really think you should take a peak, if you haven't already that is. By the way what scale would you suggest for this sort of mularkey, I was first thinking of using the TAG 28mil stuff, but after looking at some of the 15mil on offer, I am not so sure now, any suggestons greatfully received, cheers…ch.

CH,

Agreed. I really love what he did here:

More than anything, I think that 15mm allows the game table to make use of more realistic distances and terrain distribution.

Slums (particularly South African types) are very very easy to make on your own. Just slap bits of cardboard together – this is how I'm doing my setup. GZG does nice shacks in metal but maybe a bit pricey to fill a board. They of course do not-Prawn and have appropriately sized battlesuits (but rather human looking). CMG's Protelene battlesuits might be more the ticket. Hold out though for the latest GZG release because that probably has a not-prawn mech in it!

5150 or Chain Reaction 3.0 would be good for a small-ish skirmish like this.

Top Gun Ace06 Dec 2010 3:22 a.m. PST

I'd love to see some nice 28mm+ tall Jumbo Prawns produced by someone.

MWright06 Dec 2010 4:23 a.m. PST

AK47 Republic. Old style. Use 1 figure instead of a base of 3.
FUBAR

Lampyridae06 Dec 2010 5:39 a.m. PST

Vanilla Ambush Alley would also do.

kreoseus206 Dec 2010 6:34 a.m. PST

I have been tempted to do it in 28mm with combat Zone.

Rothgar06 Dec 2010 8:23 a.m. PST

I'm planning on running a similar scenario. I'm using the USE ME rules from 15mm.co.uk. I have NAC, aliens, and african underworld set to take different objectives from each other.

All my stuff is based FoW-style. I still have to playtest a bunch, but it'll probably be 3 – 5 bases for a squad, with an obvious squad leader. Alien bases may all count as squad leaders. I may use the AA hotspot mechanic for aliens and africans in the slum.

Many thanks to everyone for some very informative replies I am very grateful. A special thanks to Cacique Caribe, thats a load of great information you provided and I am certainly going to go with 15mm now, especially as GZG have a christmas special offer on. Thanks again to all….CH.
