I moved to Nottingham recently, and I wanted to know if there are any clubs playing non-Warhammer games in the area. I tried asking the Uncaring Google, but didn't get any working email addresses.

I think (and hope!) so.
Nottingham is supposed to be the centre of the (wargaming)world!

Warhammer World has plenty of historical events. Many of them WAB/WFB based of course, though I beleive there do others as well.

The Irregulars is a good club. Getting to Newark from Nottingham can be a pain though, unless you drive.

Theres a shop in Ripley( a bit closer than Newalk) that hosts all sorts of wargames. Think its called Chimera.

I think not any more they don't – now it is only official GW events at Warhammer World.

But Eye of the Storm just down the road will welcome historical gamers.

You cannot go far wrong with Maelstrom Games in Mansfield. Plenty of all sorts of wargames on offer in a massive gaming hall in a renovated mill.

When you say 'non Warhammer' do you mean no Warhammer taking place at the club at all or you would like a club where you could get a game but you are not wanting to play Warhammer. If the former you'll struggle to find anything anywhere these days.

Elohim26 Nov 2010 3:58 p.m. PST

@ scrivs: I mean a club where I can play something other than WHFB/40K =]

@sector51: Is there a link for Eye of the Storm?

NBATemplate26 Nov 2010 5:24 p.m. PST

This is the forum for Maelstrom Games and events at their place "Eye of the Storm": link

Having spent 18 months living in Nottingham in the last three years I can vouch for the – somewhat incredible – fact that there is NO organised wargaming in Nottingham, other than at GW central. If you want to play bog-standard, mainstream Ancients, Napoleonics, ACW or WW2, then you're stumped.

Here in Newcastle, there are at least three historically-biased wargames clubs and there are upwards of a dozen in the Tyne and Wear area. Nottingham, which still facetiously claims to be the centre of the wargames world, can't manage one. Why so?

ps: for the geographically-challenged, neither Newark nor Mansfield are in Nottingham.

What about Queens Walk community centre in the Meadows? Are they still going?

Just dont park your car there……..

And there wa sa club in Mapperley when I lived there, and a group in Lenton (admittedly all a number of years ago now!).

Nottingham has always been strong on gaming……. cant believe its all closed down.

Theres a nice club in Quorn, near Loughborough – Sons of Simon de Montfort – and a number of spin off clubs in the north Leics/south notts area.

Foundry might also be able to let you know where local clubs meet for their hisotrical ranges etc. There are also two universities in Nottm, theres bound to be some clubs in there.

Way back (1988) when Nottingham still had a poly (Trent) the SU had a wargames club. You could try either of the universities at least to get contacts for a game.

In the city centre, Foundry holds regular gaming evenings – as does the Wargames Illustrated office in Beeston (not just Flames of War either).

Access Models in Newark is open for games in the evenings and there is the KIA club in Kirkby in Ashfield and Forest Outlaws at the Mansfield Gas Sports & Social Club.
