Over a year ago I CANCELLED the CyberDefender service, (also home of 'My Clean PC' and 'Double My Speed' dot com etc…) when I got a NEW PC with new anti-viral/firewall and security software.

I duly notified them….that I'd cancelled per their terms of notification in advance. Then I recently received notice that 'automatic renewal' was coming up…(nice of them to tell me so I could decline YET again) which I did…(in plenty of time to avoid charge, or so I thought).

Then, the 'congratulatory' email this morning about my 'automatic renewal' which was already charged to my bank account….and that would put me into 'overdraft'….

So I promptly called their 24/7/365 customer service line…to be given a recording that I'd 'called outside their normal business hours??????'….so I left a message to CANCEL the service, refund the money AND I'd be disputing it with my bank and also notifying the BBB as I'd already 'opted out' of renewal…after having already PREVIOUSLY canceled the service almost a year ago!!!!!!

I will probably have to get a new 'debit' card because of this, which is another good reason for NOT ever leaving a debit or credit card on account with 'services' such as this or only using a 'pre-paid card' with a set amount which would be AUTO-DECLINED if they didn't 'listen', again!!!

I am 'slished'….very, VERY SLISHED! and they are on Santa-thulu's 'NAUGHTY' list….(I'll get them 'bumped' to the top and that means they might get the Marinara flavored 'Greetings' cards that he uses to FIND them…..Bwah-hah-ha!

Revenge of the TENTACLE? Not hardly….I'm talking all-out WALL-to-WALL 'Hit-tentacular obliteration!'

Don't MESS with the BARTENTACLE!!!!

I had something similar happen with ZoneAlarm – they decided to 'opt-in' all their registered customers for auto renewal. When I objected & demanded a refund they cancelled the remaining month+ of my existing, paid subscription.

I no longer recommend even their free programs.

Depending upon where their customer service is located…you may have hit them outside of "normal business hours", (prayer time, fasting, lunch, holiday, and or govt. coup happening…)

The only online services I am keeping and auto-renewing is Kaspersky and my website hosting service. I have no complaints from either other them for their service or their product. Although sometimes the Kasp AVG is a bit of a memory hog, I can deal with it…

Good luck with this…and make sure you keep everything documented.

I contacted my bank….(which wasn't of MUCH use), but they did give me another number for the company which WAS in 'service' and since the charge was only 'pending' they, (the vendor), and would be cancelled!

We shall see!

I cancelled out of all automatic payments. Being unemployed for over a year their deductions never seemed to coincide with when I had money in an account. If things require auto payments I don't subscribe.

Can you sign on to your account and leave it valid but erase the credit card info? That's how I opt out of MMOs when I've decided to stop playing them. The monthly charges stop.

Oh, and after you do this, sign right back in and make sure the erasure took. If not (if your credit card info is back in there), edit to be an invalid card number / expiration etc.

I figured out this trick by noticing some of my recurring charges stopped. Why? Because the credit card had expired. I had received a replacement card, same info but different expiration, but hadn't updated these particular accounts.

Of course you should remove the software as well.
