I'm looking for a UK source for a green cloth marked with hexes on one side and blank on the other. Hexes need to be roughly 35-40mm. It needs to be roughly 6x8 feet and flexible enough to hang off the edge when used on smaller tables. Any recommendations?

I sent off to Hotz Mats. No, its not in the UK (though I am), but I got it within 4 weeks, and they do a good variety.

terrainmat.com gets many recommendations. They offer grid and hex overlays in various dimensions.

Terrain Mat do make lovely mats (I have a 2x2 DBA mat and its gorgeous) but for a 6'x8' with 2" hexes on it comes in at £142.00 GBP with P&P, so for me that would be prohibitively expensive. If you have that kind of money then I would say it's probably worth it. On the downside, it wouldn't be very flexible that it would easily hang over the edges of a smaller table.

For Hotz mats (which, as I said in the other thread, I also own) they are good quality for the cost, will hang over the edges, are more portable and you can use the other side as a plain green mat. The downside is that you might not get the size you're after exactly. I know that mine are 6' by not quite 4'.

Another option is to buy a cheep plain felt mat from S & A and take a marker pen to it. There are tutorials on making hex mats on the web, but I can't remember where I saw them. Litko make a hex template, incidentally.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the pointers.

£142??!!! Good grief! All I want is a cheap'n'nasty piece of felt with hexes printed on it and preferably with plain green felt on the reverse, so it can also be used as a plain ol' green cloth.

It sounds like Hotz Mats might be the way ahead, but I can't believe that there isn't a cheap product closer to home. If it was for my own personal use, I might opt for quality, but this is going to be bashed around in a training environment, so cheap'n'nasty is what I'm looking for.

S&A Scenics do nice felt sheets with hexes in green or blue. They cost £40.00 GBP for 4' by 6'. Not as pretty as the Terrain Mat, but cheaper:

I import mats to the UK from this company, I don't normally stock what you want, but I am getting ready to place a restock order so have a look and if it is what you are looking for, a 6' x 4' with inch and a half hexes would set you back a little under £20.00 GBP

Take up Wargames Command Post on the mats by Monday Knight Productions. You'll have to get 2 to achieve 6x8 feet, but other than that they meet your stated needs.

Thanks Bob! I'll definitely take you up on that kind offer. My cadets will be very grateful (or else)!

Is it possible for two sheets to butt up to each other as a continuous hex grid?

Bob,

I've e-mailed you directly and definitely want to take you up on that offer. I look forward to hearing from you.
